6990 noise (stock cooler) in Raven 02-E question

Thread Starter
Apologies beforehand if this has been asked to death before: My case is the Silverstone Raven 02-E, which I love since the airflow is superb and it's extremely silent. I'm thinking of switching over to a HD6990 card, since the price of it (the Club 3D one) has dropped alot, making it a very attractive purchase.
Now, I'm not gonna watercool it or buy the custom Arctic fans. What I'm interested in is the noise I can expect from it, given my Raven case. I've read and heard all about the extreme noise coming from it when your'ree playing games, and that's the reason I'm still hestitent. I don't mind some noise, but judging from the sound videos, it's a turbo engine under load.
Does anyone run this card with the stock cooler, preferably in the Raven 02-E case who can share his/her opinion about the noise?

Kind regards,

Zaph

The stock cooler will be fairly loud. It doesn't really matter which case it is in all too much most of the time since the card's noise will overpower the noise from the case fans. There is that aftermarket Accelero cooler but you'd be better off w/ watercooling, though the Raven isn't too great for WC.

With the Stock Cooling, I believe Radeon HD 6990 is loudest card in the market. Louder than GTX 480.
The noise is at annoying level inside my case.
Well... PowerColor Eruption is more like a Server Case.
The Airflow is not optimize and makes the card temperature higher.

I have the 6990 in my FT02 and with all case fans on highest RPM the 6990 hardly makes more noise than the case fans because they are doing such a good job cooling it. I just did a 3dmark2011 run and max temps were 79/78C@935/1350 OC the gpu fan maxed out at 38%; it doesn't get louder than the case fans until you hit the 40's. Score was http://3dmark.com/3dm11/1998859. Your case is almost the same as mine you'll be fine.

Hey RED5,

That's interesting indeed since the cases share a samiliar layout. By GPU fan at 38%, I assume that you mean you have manually set the fan to that %? So, assuming with proper airflow I can just manually set the fan to an acceptable noiselevel without sacrificing cooling?

I'd be interested to know if you're doing that as well Bima? Or do you have your fan set to auto?

That's on auto fan speed but you could put it on manual speed at quieter levels but don't overclock it too high or it won't be stable.
