No, the DG has a headphone amp but the DX doesn't.

OP, I'm not too surprised on your thoughts about your DG. My old Chaintech AV-710 has much nicer SQ than my Xonar DX so I leave it in my computer for the rare times that I need an analog output. The Chaintech was ~$20.

Edit: I have the HFI-680 and they seem to do best with "real" amplification. They're OK on my Dynalo but they do their best on my McIntosh 1500 receiver and Harman/Kardon HK6250 integrated amplifier. Actually, they sound almost indistinguishable on the latter two which is quite suprising as they're very different sounding amps with anything and everything else.

If you have an old stereo receiver or integrated amplifier with a headphone jack I'd give it a try. Hook it up to the line out on your Xonar DG and see what happens.

Lame frown.gif Oh well, thanks for the answer. Things work fine as they are but I was hoping to have that option to tinker with tongue.gif

First off, I'm still new to the whole "quality sound" scene, so bare with me.

I've just received my Ultrasone HFI-580 a few days ago and the first thing I did was plug them into my ipod and fell in instant love. It sounded amazing. So much clarity with an extremely punchy bass. By the way, my ipod are on stock settings, the equalizer has not been touched.

A few hours after that, I decicded to plug them into my XONAR DG. I figured it should sound much better on a sound card than just a ipod. This however was not the case. It sounded dull, boring, and flat. The bass was there, but it wasn't as impactful. It just kind of blended in with the other sounds. The DG is also on stock settings.

Why does it sound beter connected to my ipod? Maybe, I should mess with the equalizer? Even though I don't really know what to do with it.

Thanks in advance!

You did change it to 'HF' mode and NOT GX right?

Also I would guess it's differences in output impedance and maybe of course, placebo.

Just so you know, the DG defaults to the 32 ohm mode. If you want some "kick" in those Ultrasones, change the amp to "exciter" mode (64+ ohm).

Probably more of an EQ thing than sound fidelity.

Could be sound fidelity.

I was getting disappointed with my D2X sound with my HD555s...After some reading, I added ASIO/WASAPI dlls to Foobar2k, and some non-EQ related tweaking. My tunes sound completely different (in a better way). In theory it shouldn't have made a difference, I mean all those FLACs are only 1s and 0s and telling the computer to relay them bit-perfect to the DAC should be redundant...but acoustically it made a great difference in clarity as well as depth.

OP what software audio player are you using?

itunes. Lol

can someone answer my previous question, on my ultrasone box, it say that it is 32 ohms. Would setting it on 64 ohms damage my cans?

No, you'll be fine.
