question about bulldozer upgrade

Thread Starter
hi all,

i am going to be upgrading my pc soon and was wondering if it is worth me getting the bulldozer fx 8150? i see that there are alot of people saying that its not worth it and some are saying that the phenom 2 x4 965 do better?

i am very confused about what to get lol.

i many only do gaming but feel its time to upgrade everything.

should i just start saving my money and wait untill after christmas and then get a bulldozer and new motherboard or should i go for it now?

Don't get bulldozer it is crap for user interface computers. I would go with the Phenom II x4 or x6. I am biased toward the x6 as I have one but having more cores means more time before you need a new processor. they both have similar OC potential the x4 can go a little higher but has less cores so they have about the same performance.

i have a phenom II x4 965. whats wrong with the bulldozers ?
markshim your current CPU is better than Bulldozer for gaming, why waste $230 for a downgrade? Not to mention you'll need a new MoBo too. If you want to upgrade upgrade to an I5-2500k rig, otherwise your rig is fine for gaming.

i dont know how recent your system is. but the last time i bought a cpu for these prices was in 2006. these FX cpu's are perfect timing for some one thats cpu is kinda dated. i ordered a 6core. would have got the 4core for $129 if found one....beats this athlon 64 x2 all day

He has a Phenom II X4 965 already and he is a gamer. No need for him to downgrade to Bulldozer.

i wouldn't recommend the bulldozer ..it performs worse than the chip you already have..i realize that after 2 years of waiting..it's disappointing..but this is how it is

I thought the 980 was 3.8 at stock, or close to it. Anyway, no, its not worth upgrading from a 9xx black edition to another 9xx black edition as anyone on this forum would tell you. Its just not cost effective at all. Its hard for a guy in your situation to upgrade when it comes to processors, because your needs aren't that high since you are a gamer, and because your processor is already really good. So most upgrades you make wont be worth the cost, unless you go to an i5-2500k rig.
