Instead you could sell your current mobo, cpu and save for an intel mobo and get an i5 2500k..

Let me correct that.
An i7 is faster on all areas, an i5 is faster on all areas except very heavily threaded stuff like rendering/encoding.

For gaming a 1090-1100T wouldn't be any faster than what OP has at the moment.

Bulldozer seems to do pretty well with gaming, a lot of them seem to hit 4.6Ghz or close to it, I have to imagine that a Bulldozer cpu at 4.6Ghz will be quite competent for games and worth a look.

That's an Intel i5 2500k. And that's faster than any AMD CPU available today in everything which is not heavily threaded (for example games).

save your money and grab an H100 from corsair, and oc the crap out of your 965...
thats what I plan on doing with my 1090T. I'm going to wait till after the holidays and maybe pickup the bulldozer 8170 refresh.

I wouldn't spend any more money until you have enough to do a full upgrade with the CPU, motherboard, video card, and RAM.
