How do I transfer my Windows 7 OEM License?

Thread Starter
Ok so I just traded my AM3+ Board for another with pretty much the same value and now I'm stuck with a dilemma. Can or How do I transfer my Windows 7 64-Bit License to the new Motherboard?

Any help would be appreciated here.

OEM versions of Windows are not transferable

No, OEM is tied to the original computer it is installed on, and MS defines that as the motherboard. You need to buy a new copy of windows.

See the link in my sig if you have any questions.

I haven't had to do it with Windows 7 as I've only used retail copies for my personal use and I haven't changed the motherboard on any machines with OEM copies, but with OEM Vista you just had to call that 800 numbers and activate it...it then will be tied to the new motherboard and can then be activated automatically as many times as you need on that motherboard.

I was sort of assuming it would be the same with 7, they really did that then? wow...I might start telling people to buy retail.

What if you replace the mother board with the same one? How is the hash code made for 7? Will it look at the different MAC as think it is a new system or will it still be close enough?

I know you can transfer licenses normally but maybe if I were to contact the License department of Microsoft they will allow me to transfer? Highly doubtful though.

I had a failed motherboard when SB first came out, I called MS and they gave me a new key for my OEM copy when I explained to them what happened and I had to replace the mobo. Its worth a try.

I called Microsoft and told them my MB died and had to replace it and reinstalled windows. They ok'd it right there.
