New Build, Need some good advice

Thread Starter
Hey guys and gals, just had a quick couple of questions about my next move concerning my build. Below are the parts i have purchased and own in my possesion now.

Thermaltake CLP0554 80mm Sleeve CPU Cooler

SAMSUNG CD/DVD Burner Black SATA Model ...

Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKX 500GB ...

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 ...

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz ...

GIGABYTE GA-990XA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990X SATA ...

Sentey Arvina Extreme Division Tower Case 6x Fan ...

My main concern as of now is my choice of Power sup. Video card(s) and monitor. My plan is to create a decent gaming rig, I had the plan to purchase at least a 1k watt psu in order to power either two 6950's or 6970's, the monitor i will be purchasing is a 27in 1920x1080. This is where my confusion comes in, will i have a hard time having great game play if i order only one of the cards now along with one monitor? My plan was to buy the second card and second monitor by Christmas this year. In january i will be purchasing the 3rd monitor to complete my x3 eyefinity set up. I am just so on the fence right now, because i wan't to be able to enjoy my set up at any given stage of my build. I am not too technical as far as knowing to Overclock just yet, but i at least want my graphics with one card to look as good as the game is going to look on my xbox 360 until i can crossfire and add another monitor.

So my next purchase will be:
PSU
(1)6950 1g or (1)6970 2g
(1) 27in 1920x1080 Monitor

I want to go with Gigabyte for my cards and the prices right now for each card are 6950($219 after rebate) and 6970($359.00)

What is going to get me the best gaming experience in the long run?

Butt Kicks OP for even THINKING of buying a 1GB HD-6950 ... snap out of it man !

Gigabyte is cool and all, but in the HD-6950/70 market right now, Sapphire is the KING !

The On-a-Budget HD-6950 Option = Sapphire DIRT3 w/ THREE FREE GAMES @ $250 after MIR (Card has DUAL BIOS switch and chance to UnLock to HD-6970)

The BEASTIE BEST HD-6950 Option = Sapphire TOXIC @ $270 after MIR (Card has DUAL BIOS switch and BEST Chance of any 6950 to UnLock to HD-6970, also the FASTEST 6950 on the market, I own it, trust me !)

The OMG what a DEAL HD-6970 Option = Sapphire HD-6970 @ $320 after MIR (it WAS going for only $300 last week, you missed out)

Another GREAT card is the MSI PE/OC TwinFrozrIII HD-6950, it's another BEASTIE ! w/ a good shot at UnLocking also.

As far as a PSU, I'd check with Phaedrus2129's he's the OCN PSU GURU and has a great PSU Calc APP, but I'd say 1000w is a tad overkill ...

Some PSU's I'd consider

I'd personally recommend the 6950 TOXIC as well. It has quite a high chance of unlocking to a 6970 and has a good amount of overclocking headroom even when unlocked.

If you are only playing at 1080p you'll find a single 6950/6970 should suit you well - I'm sure you won't be disappointed. You can easily pick up a second card for when you want to go for the multi monitor setup.

In terms of the monitor are you sure you really want 1080p at 27"? I've got a 27" at 2560x1440 and if I smack it down to 1080p it looks quite silly. Might be just because I'm used to the higher DPI on the 27" 2560x1440 though..

^ Ok well im going for the price and size thing i guess, Im using a 20inch acer right now and it is not 1080p. I am basically wanting this best resolution for the price. When i watch youtube videos at 1080p settings on my screen it looks damn good, so i can only imagine what a bigger screen and true 1080p looks like. The price of the screen i wanted was $300 if you can find me a similar screen to yours so i can know what to look for then i will sticking with one monitor for now.

TOXIC / TWIN FROZR III / DIRT 3 EDITION 6950 2GB are all nice choose one of them

What is ur budget for the PSU? if you just want advice then maybe like Corsair AX 850 or HX for budget PSU maybe even the TX850 if u want to save money. Enermax is another awesome brand. Check them out.

For 1080p, assuming you have good eyesight, with a 24" screen you can sit up to 0.951m away from the screen and be able to resolve the full detail of the screen. For a 27" screen you can sit 1.07m away and be able to resolve the full detail. Unless you sit miles away from the screen there is no real reason to get anything bigger than a 24" @ 1080p. Buying a bigger screen without the increase in resolution has no real advantages unless you have bad eyesight.
