Bump RAM to spec - 1600MHz

My RAM is rated at 1600MHz, and I'm looking for advice on clocking it to those specs. I tried an XMP just to see what settings it would use, and I would experience intermittent freeze ups. I'm not sure what timings it used, but I know it set the VTT to 1.2, up from 1.005.

Obviously the settings chosen by the XMP were unstable, so I'm looking for advice on how to accomplish this manually.

Set your RAM timings and voltage based on the rated specification (can be found on the sticker, CPU-Z SPD tab, or sticker on the memory). Only worry about the first 4 timings and command rate, everything else can be on auto.

1.2v is high for only 1600mhz, you can leave it at stock (or 1.1v if you really want to increase it) I run like 1.05v for 1866mhz and could probably go lower but never bothered testing... Do a pass of memtest86+ to ensure stability. If it fails then you can either RMA, or bump the voltage a little until it's stable (e.g. 1.5v fails but maybe 1.55v works).

What timings did the XMP show?

If you enable Extreme Memory profile it shoudl really do the job, however sometimes there can be issue's. You should be able to select the frequency by setting the SPD to 16.00. Then just go onto setting the DRAM votlage and itmings manually. You shouldn't really have to increase the VTT at alll

The timings were 9 9 9 24, which is spec. Some things I couldn't view cuz they were left on AUTO, but the VTT was up.

So I might be able to set it to 1600MHz without changing the voltage?

Well all you need to do is just disable XMP and select 16.00 from the SPD and go and set the voltage of your RAM and the timings to stock and that should do it, you won't have to touch the vtt.

Haven't run a memtest yet, but I've played some BC2 and it works ok, some minor glitching, but it's hard to tell if that's from the memory or the game itself. Everything else is working no problem.

Interesting I have the same ram (speed and timings) in the 16gb kit. XMP-1600 no problems. Wonder if its how the board is handling it. Boards and memory when will it ever end.

Meh, I just cleared the XMP and set the RAM frequency to 1600MHz manually without increasing the voltage or changing the timings. Everything's working great now.
