24 - 27 inch display for gaming and movies!

Thread Starter
Hey guys!

I need some help selecting a monitor. There's so many to choose from it's overwhelming!

I'm looking for a display around 24" - 27". I was thinking 400 budget but if something was truly worth the extra cash i'd go as high as 700 probably. I'm going to be doing some gaming and watching movies... and audio recording, but I don't really think that factors in to monitor selection. Any suggestions or pro and cons of specific monitors?

Thanks!

Or if you're really into image editing then get an IPS monitor (Dell U2412M or HP ZR24W).

Thanks for the suggestions. I probably won't be getting into any image editing at all. I was considering the HP ZR24w however. along with all these...

LG W2442PA-BF
ViewSonic VA2702W
ASUS ML239H
Viewsonic VX2453MH-LED
LG M2762D
Dell UltraSharp U2412M
Acer GD235HZbid

It's a lot, I know. They're all got very high reviews on amazon.com Should I just stop being so indecisive and get the cheapest one? or get one of the decent IPS monitors? This is my main dilemma.

okay so I just checked out the deal on that Planar monitor you linked. So that's a 500 dollar monitor down to 220 pretty much? That seems like a pretty awesome deal. I haven't looked into any Planar monitors.

Also I know I don't care if it will come with speakers or not as I plan on getting a nice set of powered studio monitors.

?

I don't think I could go back to a 16:9 after gaming on my 16:10. . .

doesn't seem like 180 pixels would make that much of a difference but it did for me.

I simply have black bars top on bottom on some movies, Hell even my 1080P TV I have about 3" of black bars top and bottom on some movies. . .

Don't get the LG W2442PA-BF. It's absolutely the most horrible monitor I've ever used. I used it as my main monitor a year back.

For budget and size: Asus. Their monitors are great for the budget price range.

If you want a bit more expensive, a bit smaller, but better color fidelity, an IPS monitor like the dell u2412hm is quite excellent. (Ignore what hydros says about. He's either someone with a fanatical obsession to 16:9 to the point where he is willing to lie to convert people to his preferences or he's a troll. My money's on him just being obsessed)

dumbest statement ever...i hate it went people make fanboy-type statements like this. just ignore comments from people like this. nothing is ever this black and white (ie: 16:10 does NOT make gaming/movies "useless")...a lot of people would recommend 16:10 over 16:9 (yes, even in gaming)....regardless of if you lose a little vision from the side or not. Even if you prefer 16:9..there are a lot of other (some would say "more important") factors to consider before buying a monitor. I personally enjoy gaming more on 16:10..its visually more pleasing to me..even if i lose a little vision on the side. to each his own....

PS: IIRC, you can change 16:10 into 16:9 in game if need be. if its 16:10 24" IPS vs. a 16:9 23" TN or IPS..i would take the 24" always..the 16:10 is just icing on the cake for me.

Just look at the facts. 16:9 is far better for games and movies.
