Is this possible?!? (Temperatures dropping after removing fans)

Okay I don't know if you have ever heard of this but it's baffled me.

I moved my desk and put my rig up on top of my desk and the temperature raised from the steady 24oC it was running at to a hefty 34oc, ten degrees difference just from moving it. I installed the fans to help cool it and they hardly made a difference, so today I got ****ed off with the noisey these new fans were making so I removed them and my CPU and case temperatures actually dropped. I was like "Whaaaa?!?", infact I still am like "Whaaaa?!?".

What's your take on this?

It's possible if the fans are somehow circulating the air immediately around the case. It could also do with where the case is/ which fans are blowing in which direction.

Before I moved I had a computer that always ran hot because it was on top of a desk in the corner ~ the air wasn't really moving there.. when I moved I noticed at least 5c drop for most things just by placing it in a more open area.

you sure you had the fans facing the right way?

For example, having the front ones intaking cool air and the back ones exhausting the hot air. Otherwise, the fans facing the wrong way wouldn't be circulating cool air but hot air being produced from your system.

Same happened to me. Believe it is called something along the lines of turbulent air flow. Some of the air was probably cancelling out other air or was fanning the heat.

I think that strategically placed fans are just as important as the quality and amount of them.

Well before I moved my desk it was in one of those little tower case holes that are seen in most desks, the air must've flowed better there than on top. I think I'm experiencing what you were as my tower is cornered as you can see in the pic below.

EDIT:

Yes I always make sure I set fans up in the correct directions to maximise airflow, I have a 12" in the front and an 8" in the back exhausting and the side to help exhaust the GPU even though I don't have one yet lol.
