GTX twin frozr II temps, confused

Thread Starter
Hey Ocn,

I recently got the 580 Twin Frozr II cuz I loved the temps people were getting, but here is my problem. Mine seems to be minimum of 69C on load, with sub 30 idle.

Open case, massive fan blowing fresh 20C air at it. Tried some Furmark aswell and easylly went 80C +

Dont get me wrong 70ish C is awesome so is the 580, but I was expecting alot better. Guessing these temps are pure open testbench temps then ?

With the multi fan coolers, I've had more success if I set the fan over it to exhaust, so it's worth a shot. What case exactly is it?

Just set the side fan as exhaust... when being set as intake it alters card's airflow.

You shouldn't have been expecting any better than that, that's about as good as it gets for a dual slot cooler on a 580.

Fractal design define R3, but I was getting about the same temps having the open case and have a massive fan blow in fresh air and blow away the warm air. Then closed it up and had the fan blow in the little side fan opening. After that I stuck a 120 mm fan in the side intake and one out at the top also getting about 70C.

Tested in BC2 everything completly maxed out.

I also tried the side as an exhaust didnt seem to help anything only made it worse then as intake.

Again, you've got your thinking wrong. Set the side panel fan to exhaust to pull the hot air away from it. Coolers with that design aren't the best when it comes to exhausting hot air away.

I might have my thinking wrong but RL showed it didnt work aswell as people say it should. Might not get sufficient fresh air from the normal intake fans but dunno yet.

Just the way your last post read seemed like you hadn't tried it yet.

I didnt mention it, but I tried and didnt seem to work. Was getting better temps as intake. Rather have is as an out cuz of dust and noice, fan seems to make TONS more noice when being intake.

Getting myself some extra 140 mm fans so I can do some more playing around with them.

Think its just the 1000 rpm 120mm fractal fans as intake in the front which cant move enough air. When I felt the air being pushed by my 2k sickle flow is about half the airflow when I the door closed as when the fan had infinite air.

Little update.

Added two 140mm Thermalright TY-140's, really cheap high quality fans really good.

I added them as side intake(found it to be the best option) and top exhaust, fan controlled all my fans to be so quiet I can hear my HDD.

Anyway, so far havnt got higher temps than 74C in any games I have played completly maxed out, also Heaven benchmark no higher then 74. I lose 2-4C running all fans maxed out. Also love the 25-30C idle temps.

Im guessing this is the best Ill get it, ran my GTX 280 for ages running 80-85C nps so im happy with the results.

For those thinking of buying interal exhaust GPU I just wanna give my opinion about my findings. Internal exhaust GPUs are ind cooler then external but you definetly gotta make sure you have good airflow, differnce between 70C and 90C is just two fans, even at quiet operation and thats in a Fractal Design R3 which doesnt have the best of airflows. About the quietness of the MSI 580, running 70+ the fans go crazy and get pretty load, but really in games who cares.
