October Foldathon - Target achieved! [Stats and prizes posted] - Page 22

Well, looks like the old 8800 GTS has helped my folding, I've hit 30k PPD for the first time. My rig is ridiculous right now. My 500 watt PSU didn't have enough PCI-E connectors for another GPU so I have an old Ultra "650" watt on top of my case with a paperclip in the main connector to turn it on and a single PCI-E plug running into my case to power the 8800.

Everything does seem more stable while folding since I moved one of my screens to the 8800. Anything graphical (including the Aero desktop and web pages) was really laggy before, I guess my 460 didn't like driving two screens while folding. Now both screens are really smooth.

I'll have to try that advmethods flag on my 460, didn't know about that until today.

You should get a 2 molex-1 PCIe cable adapter. Running that other PSU just for a old GPU is going to make it very inefficient. Your 500W should be enough for to run all you got in your sig plus that other GPU.

Agreed, my 500W is definitely enough. My rig while SMP and GPU folding draws at most 300 watts according to my Kill-A-Watt. But you make do with what you have, not what you want. I have a spare PSU and a paperclip. I don't have a molex-to-PCIe adapter.

I've got a massive program here. My mouse (Logitech MX revolution) has decided to stop working and I don't have any spare mouse's lying around. So I'm now unable to install and configure the folding

Logitech will send you a new one. The rubber bit fell off the top wheel on my MX Revo, and they sent me a new one, no questions asked.

Firstly, bravo for conquering a web forum without a mouse I'm genuinely impressed. Next, there's 3 days til the Foldathon, so nip to Tesco and grab a crappy one for 59p.

The plural of mouse is mice.

Will they?, I think I bought it in 2006. The battery has ran out of battery and nothing happens when I put it in the charging dock so I assume that it's broken. Will see if I can pick up a cheap one before the foldathon starts.

By the way I'm using my phone at the moment to type messages

Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the mouse and the charging dock with a rubber?

I sometimes really need to wiggle mine in and hold it down quite firmly to persuade it to charge too.

I can't seem to find it on my work PC, but doesn't Windows have a setting that allows you to use your numpad to move the mouse cursor around? It's clumsy and annoying but should give you enough control to get set up.

Left Shift + Left Alt + Num Lock

Then use the numpad to control the pointer, with 5 as left click.
