there is now a forth Recon3d coming out and it enables 24bit, 192 kHz

Just received my card yesterday. not to shabby, music is ok, movies are good and gaming is where it's at. My brother has the titanium fatality, it is better for music and movies but for games i think the recon3d does a little better with sound placement and is slightly better for gaming overall. bf3 in scout mode is really nice and even better in quake, i really like using this card with quake. If you like to play competitively and a lot of fps and racing games, and don't already have an x-fi or an other, then i can see this being a decent upgrade for a lot of users.

The PCB and components are identical on all the PCIe versions (some resistor values maybe different depending on if it has LEDs). I believe the software is identical as well except for the color accents. I'll post the review that references this when I get home, can't find it right now.

Did you have TruStudio enabled when you watched movies or played music? If not at least setup scout mode so it only enables in game.

BTW, the 5.25" bay device from the previous Fatal1ty cards won't work on the non-Champion cards without modification. You would have to solder the wires to the card since the pins don't exist on the Pro and non-Fatal1ty versions.

I went around looking and reading up stuff

Hardware Acceleration of OpenAL(EFX)/Directsound-EAX(ALchemy) is done by the CPU
The iDAC is better than XtremeAudio/Audigy SE but performance is around the X-Fi

It isn't an upgrade for X-Fi

XtremeAudio/Audigy SE -> EMU10K2/2.5 350nm-180nm /EAX 4.0
X-Fi -> EMU20K1/2 130nm /EAX 5.0
Sound Core3D -> 90nm or 65nm /EAX 5.0

X-Fi = Sound Core3D minus true hardware acceleration

Implying that there will be a X-Fi replacement with Sound Core3D

I wouldn't say it is a big step above the x-fi in gaming but i do have an easier time finding people in quake than with my brothers x-fi. I tested them with my headset and a sennheiser hd 280 pro. If you already have an x-fi no need to get this, but if you don't or you play fps or racing games then why not.

From what I've seen CMSS3d which is missing from the Recon3d is actually better for positional audio than thx tru-studio if its set up properly. I just think that thx tru-studio comes at almost no hit to audio quality unlike cmss3d.

So is the Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty Professional the new best all around card for gaming performance? Or is the Titanium HD better?

I have an X-FI XtremeMusic still. I bought a Titanium HD but returned it because it sounded the same as my current card......

Well, as far as just software goes the Titanium HD has both cmss-3d and thx tru-studio so you have more choices for positional audio right there. The Titanium HD hoes have higher quality components which isn't hard to see just by looking at the pcb on the recon3d, its pretty bare. I think that they're really using that chip (sound core3d) to get into the onboard market with its integrated dac and what not but thats just a theory. I would like to see a good review on this sound card but the fact that they aren't sending out review units is kind of telling.
