I do agree that this sound card is meh.

ASIO makes a MAJOR difference when listening to studio quality FLAC files and high end amp and headphones. You WILL notice a difference. Period. It's a direct line bypassing the Windows audio stack. Also Windows 7/Vista DOES support hardware accelerated sound, just not DirectSound3D. OpenAL is fully supported hardware sound in Windows Vista and 7. The X-Fi's audio processor is leaps and bounds better then the tiny half penny sized chip on the SoundCore3D cards.

This is definitely not correct. Hardware acceleration is supported via openAL, furthermore, the 3d sound positioning of the x-fi is far superior (via CMSS-3D / X-fi crystallizer) than any onboard motherboard sound. Even with headphones, CMSS 3D is downright impressive with the X-fi chip.

The recon3d isn't an upgrade from the titanium HD, which is the real problem. In comparison to other products, the titaniumHD is still the best, IMHO. While the Xonar essence STX is great for sound quality, it is terrbile at 3d positional audio compared to the x-fi. Thats the main draw of the product. I understand that bashing creative is a "thing" now, but really the x-fi titanium/titanium HD don't deserve it. Like I said in comparison to other products, it just blows away realtek motherboard sound and at the high end - the xonar essence cards have great sound quality but terrible 3d positional audio. The titanium HD does both very well.

IDK, I really like Dolby headphone on my Xonar DX. I think that in Skyrim its a pretty big improvement over cmss-3d and thx tru-studio on my titanium HD. I'm impressed. Even in Stalker CS which does have open al support I thought that dolby headphone on my xonar sounds really good.

I've been enjoying my Recon3D Fatal1ty ever since I got it during release week. I switched from an X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty and i have no complaints thus far. I'll agree that the Recon3D's positional audio when it comes to GAMING is superior to that of the X-Fi's. For movies and music though, the X-Fi is just as good in every way.

Of course, the Recon3D Fatal1ty does not surpass the Titanium HD, which has BOTH THX TrueStudio AND CMSS-3D. But the Recon3D Fatal1ty is definitely an awesome card regardless of the lack of CMSS-3D (THX imo sounds better anyways).

What is definitely not correct? That a recon3d grants you more frames per second compated to integrated audio? can you back this claim of yours with evidence?

As you can read my original post, what I said was the Recon3D won't give you extra FPS in games so it's really absurd to market this card for gaming. I did not say that Recon3D doesn't have any cool features or it has poor sound quality. Read my post correctly please.

And did you just write Recond3D supports OpenAL? Where did you read that? I can easily say that this is wrong because if you have actually read what is says on Recon3D box then you'd see that it does not support hardware accelerated sound IN ANY WAY:

I was mainly referring to hardware acceleration, I should have specified. Hardware sound acceleration does work in windows 7, and i've seen benchmarks showing realtek motherboard audio very slightly slower. But its only in the order of 1-2 fps at most. I'm not a fan of the recon 3d but the titanium HD is certainly a huge leap over motherboard sound, but like I said I should have been more clear in my post wink.gif

Hardware accelerated OpenAL is trivial on our systems with quad/hex cores and SMT/CMT. It was more important back in the days of single core CPUs. Very few games use hardware OpenAL. Most are software OpenAL implementations. BF3 has software sound iirc.

According to this, ASIO does not provide better sound quality. It is debatable. I believe ASIO would have a similar effect as turning volume to 100 in Windows mixer.

ASIO is valuable if you are a musician with lots of instruments, midis, keyboards, mixers, turntables, etc. where low latency matters imho.
