[Creative]CREATIVE Unleashes Sound Blaster RECON3D - Page 37

All I can say is the difference side by side is astounding. I understand that modern CPU's don't have a tough time with some sound operations, but you still need the hardware for positional audio - and the x-fi compared to motherboard realtek audio is absolutely huge difference. (This isn't directed at you, riou, just in general) -- --People with no basis of comparison continually state that motherboard audio is "enough".... in my experience discrete audio is much, much better. The x-fi on the titanium hd gives a ton of features that motherboard audio can't, and the sound really is on another level when using CMSS3D and x-fi crystallizer.

I don't see why positional audio couldn't be just as accurate when being processed on the cpu. I have been wondering if the recon 3d or even titanium hd when using thx tru-studio accepts positional cues from open al or direct sound 3d or if it just down mixes a 5.1 signal like dolby headphone or even cmss3d most of the time in unsupported games.

Hmm?

The CPU can't emulate in software what x-fi does. You can get positional audio in some games but it is not as good. CMSS-3D is creative x-fi only and sounds substantially better and more accurate than software emulated 3d audio.

Why not? The x-fi doesn't use any software to produce audio?

I'm not too sure what you're trying to show with that link. I'm also not sure what "software emulated 3d audio" is, in many cases you could use that term to classify cmss3d.

Okay try to use CMSS 3D on your realtek motherboard audio. Open up creative control panel and give it a shot wink.gif CMSS is a patented creative x-fi only feature, nobody else can use it.

It cannot be emulated in software because creative owns it and it is patented. And like I said earlier it is superior to software positional 3d audio. Feel free to try though with your motherboard audio.

Honestly can we stop beating a dead horse thread
post #367 of 372
I'm presuming the dead horse is hardware accelerated sound in which case we should stop beating it and hire a necromancer! Did anyone have the pleasure of experiencing the first Bioshock in its full glory? Marvelous. If they can do this in software, WHY aren't they doing it?

What are you talking about? Creative also owns EAX which clearly can be emulated in software. You do understand that the recon 3d does not support any form of hardware acceleration? Thats what this thread is about. I don't know what you're going on about.

PCGH, a german gaming magazine and online community, finally tested the recon3d and verified the epic fail creative created with it. i think nowadays it's either an asus xonar or an xi- titanium HD redface.gif

Waste of money. There is nothing inherently special about fixed hardware sound. This can just be programmed into software. Even Creative sells software versions of Creative soundcards with software EAX and software CMSS3D.

Game devs should just add reverb into their own mix. Code the sound themselves instead of relying on some other company to create badly echoed EAX sound effects.
