Gaming Build on a budget - Help Please

Thread Starter
So I am trying to build this rig for a co-worker who has a nagging cheapskate wife, so naturally my brain is fried...

here is what I have to work with $600, but we already spent $75.00 this morning on an SSD from newegg.

so $525 left to spend, and I am looking for the following

*i3-2100
*CPU cooler - decent aftermarket, no overclocking is gonna happen (on second thought, is this even necessary for anything other than noise reduction?)
*ATX mid tower case - decent cooling, no LED fans, needs to have at least 2 fans (front and rear... and maybe a top), so buy them separate if necessary
*Ram - I figure 4Gb is fine
*HDD - around 320GB is fine
*Optical drive - cheap black DVDRW is fine
*PSU - something that can handle low end gpu crossfire in the future, so maybe 600W with at least 2 PCIE 6+2 connectors
*Mobo - doesnt need to have any overclocking capability, just 1155 socket and crossfire ready... and a Sata III port if possible
*GPU - something affordable that is not terrible that can crossfire later like a 6790 or 6850

I always try to stay with reputable brands, as I dont want to build something that is going to get scrapped right away. $525 shipped is the max, thanks for your help in advance.

A Cooler master Hyper would be a nice choice as you will be able to run the fairly low.

The XFX XXX psu's on newegg are fairly cheap right now, and there are seasonic made so its worth grabbing one.

CPU Cooler - stock will be more than fine, if you must a Hyper 212+ is the king of price performance right now.
Case- Antech Three Hundred
Ram- any 4gb kit will do, goto newegg and sort from lowest to highest price and then chose the one with the most positive reviews in the cheapest s
HDD- go with something like the hd103sj from samsung, 1tb, beast of a drive for 60$
PSU- seasonic, corsair, shop around and visit the PSU section here for more information
Mobo- h67 cheap and effective
GPU- depends on gaming needs, 6850 is great, 5770 is the best price/perf right now though.

thanks for the tips... I was thinking the hyper 212 because it is cheap and performs well, albeit a bit tall. i might need that $25.00 elseware too

as for the PSU, trying to avoid rebates... just because of the nuissance facter. yeah they are nice and I have always gotten mine, but this guy is lazy and he wont mail them in, plus cash up front is the bigger issue for them.

why spend $60 on 1 TB when I can get 320 (all i need) for $40? the point is cheap, cheap, cheap. I am looking for exact components, because I have been trying to build this thing for a couple of hours now already.

if you can be more specific on some of your selections like mobo and psu, it would help.

I dunno how well a 5770 single card is going to do with BF3.

Might be able to get a used PC P&C 610W here for $25: http://www.overclock.net/completed-t...fs-thread.html

On a $600 budget I'd skip the luxury of an SSD, especially as I'm finding out just how quick a small (64GB) C Drive will fill up.

The other route is to spend the $600 on a 580 and then start working towards convincing his wife he needs the rest of the components.

5770 will play bf3 @ decent resolutions at medium to low graphics and no AA. The 6850 is just a rebranded 5850, same goes for the 6790 and the 5970, if I recall correctly.

With 1tb, your friend can save all pictures of kids(or anything if he doesn't have them) and movies that he wants without having hte possibility of filling up the HDD. It's 20$ for 3x the size. Very worth it.

Mobo reviews: http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/sho...rboard-Reviews

Can't really recommend a particular product because I haven't read many reviews, but that link should help. There is h61 mobos on newegg, this is the cheapest one, but I don't know about build quality.

PSUs, anything that's made by seasonic, either direct sales or OEM. This is where you will spend the most money.

A couple hours?! BAH.

I have spent the last 8 months researching for what I want to buy and I still can't make up my mind .
