Windows Server 2008 R2 Issue

Thread Starter
I built a Windows Server 2008 R2 system yesterday. I gave it a static IP Address and entered in the correct DNS entry for my network. I ran DCpromo as instructed and when it asked me to reboot I did. After reboot and past post and BIOS it says the windows cannot start. I even tried rebooting into safe mode and it just hangs as well. Ive activated windows and it is the full version of the OS. Ive check the memory and the hard drives are good. Any ideas of what I can do? or did wrong with that matter.

thanks guys

Maybe this will help?

I tried booting from safe mode and it freezes after loading classpnp.sys. Google wasn’t exactly helpful. Tons of people seems to be stuck loading this driver because of various reasons.

So i reinstalled the installation and tested it step by step. windows updates had no issue, drivers had no issue, and it happens right after i do dcpromo.

After search on the web this time, i found out dcpromo will attempt to disable write caching on the disk storing the directory database.

Apparently, there was some problem disabling write caching on that disk that i was storing sysvol on.

Got it fixed after changing the configuration the sata cable were plugged in. the machine wasn’t liking the way i plugged it.

So if your machine is taking infinity to boot after dcpromo, you might want to check out if there are any issue disabling disk caching with the disk.

How many NIC's are in this system and if multiple, are the others disabled or do they have static's as well?. Is this the first DC in a new forest, or is this DC joining an existing domain? Are you installing DNS as well on this DC?.

make sure the static ip on the DC is pointing to itself if it is also the DNS, not your router or modem.

what does the hardware look like? single HDD, Raid, AHCI, etc

Ok, I was able to get it working after another clean install of the OS. I was able to run dcpromo and everything. It takes about 20-30 mintues it seems to reboot or power up to windows. Is that normal for some tower servers. Also when I try to add a computer to my new domain, on the computer it says no main with that name recognized and I know I have ther domain correct. is there anything else I need to do within Active Directory before going computers to my new domain.

20-30 minutes to reboot is not normal. What are the specs on the server?
