PCI to SATA add-on card

Thread Starter
Hi forum,
I bought this mascool add-on card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6815280001
for my sata dvd drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6827129020
but the dvd drive doesn't show up in the system even though the drive is powered and i can see the green light blinking.
i am running windows 7 64bit on asus mobo:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131284
i am using my mb sata ports for my HDD. the pci to sata card came with a driver cd and it contains several versions in there. I installed the drivers correctly i think since the card does show up under device manager.
I am looking for any advice on how to solve this issue.
TIA.

your links for newegg are messed up.

also, make sure CD drives are supported by the card. I know some addon cards like that don't support CD drives. I have seen IDE ones do it, and it is actually a feature or something.

Why can't you use your onboard sata ports? I see six ports on the board and only 4 hard drives in your sig rig. are there more?

Repost those links.

But if it's a VIA or Silicon Image chip...you have to flash the firmware to either be RAID or just plain SATA interfaces.

I have a Silicon Image SIL3114 in my server to connect my DVD drive. It came setup for RAID5, so I flashed it using Silicon Image's files from their site, and ta-da it worked!
