What is your opinion on buying digital?

Thread Starter
This is not a hate thread, I'm curious though on what you do. Games that you know you love MW3/Skyrim/BF3/D3/ETC do you buy a hard copy so you get the box art and actually have a physical copy to show/collect or do you go digital and just download via steam/origin/... I've been using Steam for years now and have quite the collection of games but I was cleaning my basement and came across a box of old Nintendo, ps1 games and the memories of going to the store and buying them coming home unwrapping the plastic and putting it in popped in my head. Looking at my list on Steam I don't have those memories and I have nothing to show expect for simple words that open the game on a list. Now I'm an Adult now and I know what your thinking blah blah game memories just let me play but really.. I do think it's cool having a box to a game come 10 years from now or so. To sum it up do you still use digital companies on games you are a big fans of? Will you buy digital or physical copy of Skyrim?

I prefer a physical copy. Unless it is on sale on Steam for cheaper. Up until the last month or so my download speed sucked so that was the main reason: less stuff to download. I have since upgraded my internet so its not as much of an issue.

I prefer a hard copy even though you can run the game without the disc. probably cause since I had old consoles I was always use to owning the hard copy and I like looking at my collection of game boxes it just isn't the same as opening steam and looking at the names and icons of games. I usually end up paying more for a physical copy but w/e

I like retail boxes but eventually it's hard to find space to store them. hence i go digital these days. it's a little trade-off between memories and convenience. hard to say which is better since digital stores are relatively new.

maybe in 10 years time, we may be able to look back at this thread and see how it went..

I honestly don't care one way or the other. I'll buy whichever is cheaper. I remember the games more than I remember opening a box and reading a manual.

Only game I bought hardcopy in the last 6 months was Dead Island for my 360. I plan on hopefully snagging a collectors edition of Skyrim if I actually decide to go to the mall sometime soon.

Its the same for me, although digital downloads have also spoiled me. Its so easy to buy games on Steam. After moving a few times you start to realize how much room all those boxed games take up. Thankfully publishers have long abandoned those massive boxes PC games used to come in.

Still, I only go boxed when I get a pre-order. When its $50 for a digital copy vs. $50 for boxed copy, boxed copy always wins.
