Dell U2711H Vertical Line

Thread Starter
Hey guys, just got my U2711H today and when I initially set it up everyone looked fine, didn't notice anything wrong with the screen so I did a little web browsing then went out for dinner. After coming back home and turning it on I now see a thin red vertical line coming down the screen.

http://jasonfarrell.com/misc/deadpixeltest.php

I used the website above to test it and the line is most noticeable on the green page. Tried reinstalling my graphics drivers, didn't change anything. I don't have another dvi cable to test yet, but assuming that doesn't work should I just be RMAing this monitor back to Dell?

Sometimes dead/stuck pixels fix by themselves sometimes they get worse within days/weeks. However, if I were you, I would RMA the monitor.Remember that after 30 days DELL does NOT guarantee a NEW replacement but rather refurb, which could be a pain.

So it's possible that it could just fix itself after regular use? Guess I'll give it the weekend to see if the problem goes away and if not I'll call Dell on Monday. Do you know if Dell offers prepaid shipping labels? Unlike mail couriers in the US, Canada Post really sucks and I'll probably end up paying at least $30-40...

Problem is not within windows, so Prnt Screen won't show any problem. Problem is with physical monitor.

Yes, pixels can be stuck. There's a difference between stuck and dead pixels. Sometimes, shipping can be harsh on your monitor. Sometimes, if a model overheats too much, it can cause certain problems like dark spots, but put a fan over it, it cools and the dark spots are gone.

My point is, since stuck and dead pixels are different, I would say there's a chance. But there's also a chance for them to come back. I mean, If you are going to test it during weekend, leave it on 24/7 to further test the problem, heat resistance and so on. If you turn it off for 12hours, and turn it on, yeah, problem might be solve, but then down the road you can experience other issues IF, your monitor had a factory defect.

Regarding pre-shipping labels, they should. If not, make sure to speak with a supervisor and ask for it. State you bought a dell monitor for their 0 dead pixel exchange warranty rather than an apple display, and that you will be happy if they take care of the issue since your monitor hasnt been use for more than 2hours and its already showing problems. DELL guys are pretty good when it comes to warranty issues. Hopefully, your experience with them will be as good as mine

Sorry for the crappy phone picture, don't have access to anything better right now. I know it's hard to see because of the picture quality, but it's definitely there and very noticeable.

Here it is:
