What to do ??

Ok guys here I go,

I've got....

An ECS G31T-M7 Mobo
An Intel pentium E5300 GHz @ 3.5
And 4GB of DDR2 not sure on speed MHz?
and a HIS 6870 1GB GFX card

Benchmaked on heaven last night and got
03:04:27 Time: 259.868
03:04:27 Frames: 2901
03:04:27 FPS: 11.1634
03:04:27 Min FPS: 3.96886
03:04:27 Max FPS: 25.4821
03:04:27 Scores: 281.206

Games aren't running as smooth as I want and I think its due to the CPU holding me back after seeing benchmarking tests on YouTube,

Im at a budget so any ideas for the best possible upgrades to get the most power will help me lots, will be more than likely buying the parts at Overclockers UK in stoke so pick the best parts you think would run good together

Answers On a stamped addressed Postcard! ... or just the forum will do

Cheers Chris

I think it's probably time for a new mobo and cpu. What kind of budget you looking at?

Im looking for a budget really of about 150 quid I'm just a bit out of date with chip sets and socket knowledge, last time I built a pc I got a ATI 9800pro 128 GFX card lol, I want an amd SYSTEM due to being best you can really get for budget bang!! from what I can see is it the gigabite z68 Mobo that's good for budget, I think that's about 70 - 80 quid and will hopefully have separate memory and CPU over clocking tools as I'm stuck on 3.5 due to my memory and FSB ratio being stuck at 3:5, just need a little bit of guidance before making a monetary plunge

Cheers

** oh preferably with USB 3.0 and I want about 4ghz AM3**

I know nothing about AMD CPU's but I'm pretty sure z68 is intel's socked 1155. Right now though the best bang for the buck would probably be a i5 2500k and a cheap/decent motherboard like the ASRock Extreme3 Gen3. Not sure on prices where you are but probably a little over your budget. And with Sandy Bridge you don't have to worry about the ram, FSB stays at 100 and you just raise the multi. That makes it so your RAM will always be set to the rated speed.

ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 £99
and the i5 is £165
So its a bit out of my range really ... i could probably push it but do you know of anything else thats about the same spec for cheaper?? ie Sandybridge so i can just cook the cpu not my ram!!
You probably don't wanna hear it, but couldn't you make do for a bit longer and save up? Being restricted on a budget like yours isn't going to buy you anything decent.

Save up to around £350-£450 would be ideal.

Oooh I think I have a dual core 2.9 chip coming my way on AM3 for free so maybe that will do it should be able to get about 3.8 out of that would have thought
post #9 of 9
The CPU you have is clock for clock and core for core +/-10% the performance of a phenom II.

If you are at 3.5GHZ now, then "upgrading" to a phenom II that you OC to 4GHZ will result in a ~15% improvement.

Sounds like a waste of money, time, and effort to me.
