Upgrade from 570 SLI.

Thread Starter
Currently running 2 x MSI GTX 570 OC edition.

Grabbed a hold of the second one couple months ago to prepare for BF3/Skyrim etc. After playing during the BF3 beta I realized that even at 1080p my vram was being used 100%. I am aware that it was beta (apparently coupled with memory leaks) and drivers are not fully optimized, however I'm the type of person who must be able to run the game max to fully enjoy it.

During outdoor engagements my FPS would dip to a noticeable level, almost to the point where I wanted to reduced some settings. I'm just wondering, at this point, if I should invest in newer cards (with more VRAM) and sell my current ones. I realize this is an expensive option (as I want to avoid the ATI route), however after selling my existing cards, it is justifiable.

I was looking mainly at purchasing 2 x Gainward GTX 580 3GB.

Or if you guys consider 1.25GB vram decent for 1080p, I would really like to invest in watercooling to reduce noise (in Auz it gets considerably warmer especially where I live, and the noise is almost unbearable).

Those Phantoms are a bit on the expensive side. If you are not on a budget, or if you find cheaper 580s, I say why not get two

Playing at 1080p there's absolutely no need for 3GB.

But if you can afford them, go for it.

But if it were me I'd go for the 1.5GB ones, the BF3 Beta was known for having vram leak issues, 1.5GB is just plenty.

Yeah, I was considering the 1.5GB versions.
However the stores I can buy from, the price difference between 1.5gb and 3gb is only $50. Just seems like the better option to go ahead and grab the 3GB version if I was to.

At that resolution i dont think you really need 3 gig cards. That being said, I love my MSI cards. They are on the expensive side, but they come stock at 832mhz already plus the 3 gigs vram. You won't be disappointed. That is until the newer cards come out. lol.

Just stick with your 570 SLI if you have it. Selling them and getting 580 SLI just isnt worth it for 1080p.
