Honestly, as an Intel Fanboy, I think that Bulldozer MIGHT just MAYBE be a good option for you. The FX-8150 supposedly shines the most in massively threaded benchmarks, which is very similar to video encoding. And if you plan on gaming only occasionally, the FX-8150 is not going to bottleneck you in any meaningful way. (Yes, if you play at 640x480 and you want 1000+ FPS.... )

Oh, and Bulldozer overlocks like a mother.

I think it's a toss up between the i7-2600k and the FX-8150.
Well said Rep for sir

Well, I don't know what the Intel board is, as the link isn't working. But the AMD stuff looks solid enough.

I would make one suggestion though. The ram you linked, is good, however for a few dollars more you can double the amount of ram. I don't see how it could hurt, but only help.

Try this stuff instead perhaps.

Should give you more flexibility down the road.

For what you listed you will be doing, I would say go with the AMD stuff you linked, but the RAM I linked. Less volts, more of it, for only $12 more.

Enjoy the new build!

Honestly, just change to an i5 2500k and never look back. It beats BD in 99% of single threaded stuff and when they're both put on a respectively high overclock I don't think BD has a chance in multi-threaded stuff either.

Fanboys saying "wait for upcoming software to make things better," are deluded. History has shown that this will never happen before a chip is drawing to the end of it's lifespan anyway.

I love how intal fan boys with there ez oc cpu still bashing Bulldozer when every day scores gets better, wait a little just to see how bulldozer ends up.
It has not even been a week and intel fan boys say fail fail fail!
This cpu is not max vcore max mutli get the best OC... it's is allot more difficult than that.

Assume some magic tweak is found and all BDs start doing 6ghz stable, they're still not going to beat out the cheaper 2500k in a LOT of applications, what do then?

2600k would be great for you and surely future proof for a long time.
