Gtx 570-unstable OC?

Thread Starter
Hey, so today I decided to overclock my gpu and read around on the forums on how to do it. basically I got the card to 930/1860/1995 at 1063mV. For my stability test I ran the metro 2033 benchmark on full settings for 30mins and didn't get any problems. However, when i play a game like crysis 2, bfbc2, and deus ex hr, I get to play for about 3 mins then the game crashes, On gpu-z it shows my gpu resets back to the factor settings. so what did I do wrong. I'm pretty sure this means the oc isn't stable lol. I did get like 20fps gains in crysis and deus ex during that 3 minute window. temps never went past 65 during the benchmark

Honestly that's quite a hefty o/c - lower it back to stock settings and see if it still does the same, if so, then it would be something else.

Ya i know, its my first time oc'ing and even I was really skeptical. I just set it back to factory settings and bfc2 is crashing just like it did with the oc.

It honestly sounds to me like you've got too low a voltage to cope with your overclock. You've given your card a HEFTY overclock for just 1063mV. I would try 1100mV - that's what I use.

Oh and forget BFBC2, it doesn't like graphics card overclocks, period. I uninstalled it in anger because though EVERYTHING was stable with my overclocks, BFBC2 didn't approve. I'll wait for BF3.

As long as I dont exceed 1.1v will I still be able to damage my card by messing with the clocks on afterburner or is it still risky? other games beside bfbc2 were crashing like deus ex. any idea? and why was it "stable in the metro benchmark but for games it just kept crashing?

Oh ya , is 1.1v entering dangerous territory or am I still perfectly fine as long as I dont exceed 1.1v. I heard that with cpus sometimes the processor will draw additional power for a quick second and if your already maxing the volts it could kill it. of course, thats a cpu but does it translate over?

Do you have the DCII Asus 570 which is a triple slot card or the reference dual slot card?

I use my GPU at sig rig specs at 1.1v, it hasn't blown yet! As long as you keep it below 1.1v, it's safe in my opinion. But, as with any overvolting, do what you think is safe and you are comfortable with. In all honesty, I can't tell a difference in most games from stock and my OC, just a slightly higher min frame rate.
EDIT: As Juano eluded to, the voltage issue only really applies to reference 570s. The DCII has beefier VRMs, so it doesn't have the same voltage issues.
