I personally did not send him any PM's, but I must admit my "message to amd" thread was a little harsh. But then again, much of AMD's marketing for bulldozer (zambezi, specifically) was directed to us desktop users, and was somewhat focused on gamers as well. They should have expected our reaction knowing the processor's capability and limitations. However, Personal Messages are no way for a community to respond to a something like this. After all, AMD is not a one man company and HATE messages are unnecessary.

The power consumption at stock is.. roughly 40-50 watts more than a similarly clocked PhII x4, and around ~25-30 watts more than an 1100t. That's not pretty. Not considering it's on a 32nm process.

OTOH Intel gained ~17% performance, ~.5ghz higher clocks, added an integrated GPU, and power still fell ~10%ish. This is the type of gain people were expecting with BD. They instead got.. yeah.

PhII was updated though, so I've got some confidence they can get power consumption down to more reasonable levels. The PhII revision (C3?) dropped power at the wall quite noticeably. Also, on the bright side, idle power usage was much better than Thuban/Deneb.

I think you're using overly strong language to describe the situation. I don't "hate" Mr. Fruehe (sp?) but I do disagree with quite a few of his actions and statements.

Even if he kept insisting increases, he even states he was wrong and apologizes. People want to lynch the man for giving information that was given to him by other engineers. This was all expected performance but not everything goes as they should, that's the way of the world. If anyone made a hasty judgement and bought equipment based on hopes and wishes and not actual facts that's your fault. He stated many times to wait until the NDA was lifted, if people had done so they wouldn't be upset.

He provided a service by taking time out of his own day and commenting on the client side of AMD to help us understand the bulldozer architecture that is all. He didn't promise anything to us or lead us on. He gave us the information that was there at the time. I hope he doesn't go but i don't blame him.

Let's think of a hypothetical scenario for a second, maybe it will help you comprehend. Say you have a son, and your son gets mugged and shot. Now, would you blame the mugger or the bullets in the gun for what happened to your son? Obviously, unless you're high on chromosomes, you would blame the robber; however, in the JF-AMD argument, you are blaming the gun/bullets.

I mean, I could say this fluently in 3 other languages, but I figure English is going to finally do it for you.
How many times do you have to be told "I'm doing this on my own time" and "my opinions are my own"? He is to blame, like it or not.

Is AMD also to blame? Sure.

Oh, and did AMD go around claiming SB-E wasn't shipping til next year and that Ivy was supposed to be here around Q4, or did he? Pretty sure those were his words.

That was my opinion as well. We're better off with no information than the wrong information.

That's news to me.

I used to post a lot more on OCN a couple years back. However, in recent times there has been a sharp increase in pretentious, angsty tweens that act purely on impulse. Most discussions here aren't worth partaking in anymore.

Nowadays it isn't uncommon to see threads with numerous posts consisting of nothing but "fail" and "^this."
It's as if some people can't form and elaborate on their own opinions anymore. They just follow mob mentality.

I don't know that I trust that a chip made with less silicon on a smaller node with more aggressive power savings uses more power on average.

thats points to a bios and turbo control issue.

Hey, this is version one for consumers. We already know from statements AMD made in its quarterly call that Llano yields were troublesome, which could mean the GF 32nm is a paperweight producer.

Well boohoo for you. He's a marketing guy, its his job to paint his employer in the most positive light possible. As far as ad execs go, he's one of the most honest I have seen
