Interesting Windows 7 reinstall issue

Hi guys,

Interesting problem here...went to reinstall Windows 7 using a special version I acquired, a stripped down gamer version. Burned the iso just fine using img burn, and yadda yadda. Gets stuck in the final phases of install, after the restart when it is "completing Windows 7 installation". Just freezes. Did it several times, both x86 and x64. Same stuff. Decided to try Ubuntu, so I grabbed the latest distro and it installed just fine. No problems whatsoever. Next I tried a different iso of windows, a lite version. Same exact issue, same spot. After I tried that, I popped the disc into my external DVD drive and installed from there, same exact issue. Now I'm thinking ***. So I reset my overclocks and I'm running a complete stock machine now, and same thing. Really don't know what to try next.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Oh, and I'm running a single hard drive, 320gb SATA.

It's the "special edition" you acquired.it sound like there's an error in the iso.

Was it the Black Edition of Windows 7 or the Extreme Edition?

Oh come now he was asking for help with that one. Not tell him go to a store and buy it.

Helpful, thank you.

Anyway yeah, I was certain it was just a bad iso the first time around, but a completely different second one yielded the same results.

I had a similar issue when installing Windows 7 with a Killer Nic card installed. I removed the card and the install was fine. What I recommend is removing any add-on cards and install the OS with one stick of ram, video card, main HDD and CPU/heatsink... basically just do a barebones install. This can rule out hardwarte conflict, faulty memory and a faulty HDD (if you have additional HDDs). Then after that install, add your hadware.

As a side note, I always recomend installing the OS with just the main HDD running, and not adding the secondary drives until after the initial installation, with the exception of RAID since you have no choice.

What speed did you burn the DVD at? They do recommend burning it at the slowest speed possible to minimise the chance of errors through burning.

Hmmm...interesting. No addon cards, my case is due for a cleanup anyway so I'll give it a good dusting and take a stick of RAM out. Hoping for the best.
