Woah... Sound cards <3

Thread Starter
Ok I could of never imagined sound cards making as much of a difference as they apparently do. Just got mine today and the difference is so huge in my Ultrasone Pro 550's that I'm pretty much blown away. This is only the Xonar DG mind you.

Always thought sound is sound... and no hardware can change what sound sounds like. Cant wait to watch my fast five blue-ray tonight on my computer

Thanks to all the posters here for making me aware of this . This community is very helpful.

How do I make that happy headphones smiley face? o-o

If I remember correctly those are 64ohm cans? A sound card was definitely needed to power them! Congrats, now you know why onboard just sucks!

OHMs doesn't directly relate to power. My Essence STX struggles with my 40OHM ultrasones on occasion.

Yeah, Same here but drivers can be a pain with some if not most sound cards

I had to get some custom drivers for my SC to work properly and all thats holding me back now is my speakers, Really need some new ones for some proper sound awesomeness

I know they are at least 64ohm cans as changing the settings in the driver makes a huge difference.

And, yes I do. We learn something new everyday.

Now all I need to learn is how to set up proper EQ settings and not use pre-made ones.

One of the biggest improvements you can make to a high end home setup is a new preamp. Most think you're crazy when you tell them that, but you can prove it to yourself by a quick trip to an audio boutique. Also, a high end cd player can actually retrieve more information from a cd than you could possibly imagine. It's funny to watch people's reaction the first time they're introduced to a real stereo.

Your post is a bit misleading. CD players don't make a difference in sound. It's been proven that a decent $100 dollar cd player will sound exactly the same compared to $3000 flagship ones.

Also, how can a cd player retrieve more information than what is written on the disc? That makes no sense. I would understand if you were talking about vinyl, but we are talking about digitally written cds.
