those are some nice photos. You used the 550D for those? IF so what were your settings? I have the same camera but not lenses and I have not been able to get low light or sunset photos like that. I have a Hoya ND400 which is supposed to be a 9 stop and I tried for these types of long exposure shots. It did not turn out well. Are you using f\\8 and low ISO? I was using too high of an f-stop of F\\16-22. Also I have a polarized lens behind the ND Hoya which I think degraded the IQ too much since it is not a high quality filter. It is made by Rocketfish.

The only thing I noticed in some of you pics is the artifacting from Post processing which I guess is hard to get rid of.

Awesome work.
How long have you been taking pictures?

the CPL is another 1-2 stops
In the same order as posted:
ISO100 - 11mm - f/4.5 - 30 sec
ISO100 - 18mm - f/5.6 - 30 sec
ISO100 - 11mm - f/11 - 30 sec
ISO200 - 11mm - f/4.5 - 390 sec
ISO200 - 11mm - f/9 - 240 sec
ISO100 - 18mm - f/13 - 71 sec
ISO100 - 75mm - f/11 - 1/1000
Artifacting - the first 2 pics its the bottom of the pool if thats what you saw - others are *ok*. My camera seems to find some nice (not) noise with the longer exposures though

Ya I tried some long 30sec to 2 min exposures for sunsets and ended up with a ton of noise and they looked horrible. Could the kit lens be partially to blame along with the CPL I used with the 9 stop ND degrading the IQ?

Noise = sensor basically.....
The warmer it is the more noise you will tend to get. Noise *usually* is heat related interestingly enough.
Stacking filters will only be an issue when you get vignetting

Right it is heating up but you have the same camera so it should react the same I would think. I like the camera but it may be a bad one with a sensor that is not working well. I get too much noise even with long exposure noise reduction turned on.
