AMD 940BE vs. Intel i5-2500K

Take a look at my Blue Beast specs. If I were to switch to a an i5-2500K with appropriate motherboard and DDR3 RAM, and keep everything else the same, would I see a NOTICEABLE improvement in gaming performance?

Quite a bit, 940 is pretty far outdated, probably wouldnt even OC much.

Umm, guys? Read the OP? Anyways, it depends on which game, but generally, yes. Check your CPU usage in some games and see if it maxes out cores, if it does, you will notice a difference so long as it is under 60fps.

Yes you would. +1 AMDPhenomX4's comments

You would also notice a difference if you swapped to a 980BE as well. gain depends on the
game though.

How do I check my CPU usage during a game? I do believe that in some games my proc is bottle-necking, but I don't know which types of games are more reliant on the CPU, and which are more reliant on the GPU. For instance I notice that the frames drop pretty severely during Star Craft when a lot of action is going on. Can't believe that in that game the GTX570 lagging! Thanks for the comments. I may be starting to save up to pick-up a 2500K....

Yes you will see difference, not much, but if I were you, I would wait at least 6 months to a year to upgrade, unless you need CPU power and it bottlenecks your GPU.

I say don't buy a i5 2500k now if you have a PII x4.

Wait for next gens or in 2 gens.

As someone who actually upgraded from a Phenom II X4 940 BE to the i5 2500K, I can personally tell you: yes, you will notice the difference. Maybe not surfing the net or downloading, but definitely in games, multitasking, and media encoding. Got an extra 10fps out of my GTX 470 from the switch alone. Was definitely holding my card back.

Yeah StarCraft is heavily CPU reliant...I think even Sandy Bridge can drop to ~45 fps during really heavy stuff. If you play a lot of strategy games you will definitely see an improvement. Like someone said check your cpu usage during games, ctrl+alt+delete and then click task manager.
