I would think so, supposed to give better support for the cooler so its not bending the motherboard.

errr, YES,

1) it will lesson the pressure on your cpu socket
2) there is insulating material on it which is NEEDED

it also stops the bolts from turning when tightening the nuts on the back of the board

if you installed the 212 without it check the back of the board under the bolts/nuts for scratches, it might have damaged your board

If you were able to install it your fine. Occasionally the stock back plate works.
