Do you really need 750W though?

any seasonic or seasonic oem.. so that would include the corsair ax line all the way up to 850w.. i've never had experience with their 1200w skew which is a flextronics model.. but i assume it's fairly quiet also..

the antec hcp 1200w that i have is fairly quiet even with a 80mm fan... so same probably goes with the lower wattage version

if you live in asia.. get yourself a super flower psu.. a platinum rated psu that they have is ultra quiet.. there are a few that weren't released in US (super flower golden king.. i want it!)

So it's a tie between the Antec's and the Corsair HX-650 (which reviewed very well) - which would be the quietest unit under load?

I must stress the wording 'under load' cause the Coolermaster was ok when you surf and just started the PC but it will rev up when BC2 is played....

@ OP, I've seen the other thread and I know what this is all about, budget constraints etc.. ignore the 'let me post something totally irrelevant in your thread because I have no ******* clue about anything discussed here' crowd..

The HX650 is a poor deal.. is a discontinued platform by Seasonic, S12E more precisely.. the Antec TPN offers better performance and efficiency at lower prices.. still Seasonic, newer platform.. but the TPN and the HX come with 120mm fans, which are noisier at any load than the Toughpower XT.. essentially making the XT x75 the obvious choice.. and no, you don't need 775 watts, but this unit is priced better than the 675W one and the 575W is not listed

From overclocker's club about the 850W model (same platform):

That's a no brainer for me. You'll never go over 500W BTW.

Seasonic X-Series is the way to go.
I don't think it would be wise for me to go the fan-less way while i wish i could but the PC is a game pc so power requirements should be quite high......and i can't get the seasonic in Centrecom (where i got the PC build) unless i get it myself and install it which i don't know how to......looks like a lot of connections to put together......it will take too much time.....

@ Snowmen, they're CWT which means they'll never be truly silent
The XT is also slightly more efficient than the TPN which translates into less heat and a less aggressive fan.. again, both are very good options.. and as far as support goes, none of them accepts RMA from Australia
post #18 of 35
forgive me if i wasn't germane to the op..
but what is his limit? seasonic x 650 is just 139 bucks

i'm sure you can find it cheaper somewhere else
i've had the tpn.. it's not as quiet as the seasonic (as can be expected)

the Thortech Thunderbolt is also a good deal at around 100 bucks at places
EDIT: unoriginal sin already recommended it

Well, he needs to buy the PSU from the shop linked above so the options are limited, his budget is 200 AUD and should suffice for a truly quiet unit in 500/600W area but there's no such units offered by the shop in question.. the TPN suggested by Snowman and the XT 775 are the two units that offer the best value.. so even though the X series or the Golden Green/King units would be superior choices they're not on the menu

Snowmmen - it takes some deciphering to get what you quoted - so all the above leads to the Antec TruePower New Series 750W being the best 'quiet' under load psu - did i get that right????
