Need help with overclock

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I got my system for a while now and would like to overclock it.
For now I plan on getting it to 4ghz.

Can someone tell me what to raise to get a stable overclock ?
Cos so far I never got a stable overclock.

I finally got mine stable at 4GHz by going to 17x multiplier, Vcore at 1.462v, ref clock @235MHz, NB running 2.8GHz@1.45v and LLC set to ultra high or LLC2. Though as I found throughout my month long endevour, just because it worked for them does not necessarily work for you. Basically you should strive to be methodical in your overclocking; only change one variable at a time. Also go up one increment at a time. but the most important things to keep in mind are NEVER go above 1.5V on the Vcore, NEVER run the CPU above 62C and NEVER set your CPU-NB or HT frequency higher than your CPU frequency.

What have you tried so far? Are you using the multiplier or the reference clock? Both?

I tried the most basical step. Raising the multiplier and voltage. But even at 4ghz and 1.55v it's not stable. I just don't get it

Sounds like the chip just isn't going to do it for ya. Some chips overclock better than others, I'd say you got one of the less impressive samples.

Yea seems like it. Sucks kinda. But how much performance gain would you get from an overclock anyway ? 10% at most ?

The results of CPU overclocking effect CPU bound work loads nearly directly proportional to the ratio of the overclock, the scaling is very good. A 3GHZ CPU OCed to 4GHZ gains 33% in CPU bound workloads in most cases.

youve really got to keep messing with it like dsp1 said. getting 4ghz has been my goal also, and i think ive only recently gotten it stable at it. i tried just cranking up the multi and vcore like you at first also, and got no where. best thing ive found so far is make sure your ram is set to the right timings, but run it at a slower speed. thats what ive done and ive actually gotten more out of my ram because of how high i got my clock without changing the multiplier.

Soo just curious. Is going into the bios and setting everything up still the best way or can you use AMD overdrive etc. too now ?

As far as I know, using the bios is the best way. You can use overdrive or other programs (I use easytune6) for basic settings, but it is best to fine tune it in bios.
