Topre Realforce 103UB and 87U

Thread Starter
Sorry it took so long to get these up! Got my Realforce 103UB back in March and my 87U this August but it has been difficult to find some time to get them up (okay, I have just been too addicted to gaming lately)!

Realforce 103UB is variable weighted and used mostly for work purposes.
Realforce 87U is uniform 55g weighted and used mostly for gaming/home purposes.

My next keyboard, if ever released, will most likely be another Realforce 87U uniform weighted at 45g, then maybe a 45g uniform 103UB, who knows!?

Enjoy!

Typical EKB packaging - so far pretty nice!

I kept my old 103UB box so here are a few comparing shots:

Which do you like better? Uniform 55G or variable?

Honestly, it's difficult to say.

I will say that there's no way I would be able to use a 55g at work. The buttons feel so much stiffer and sometimes my fingers actually tire if I type at weird angles (I usually rest them right over the top). However, I love the crisp feel to them

However, when I gamed at home using the variable, I would constantly catch myself pressing the A key, particular when racing I would always end up turning left and crashing because the A is weighted at 35g while WS and D are all 45g.

To be honest I'm glad I have both. I never use the numpad at home so the 87U is perfect for gaming - though I definitely think a 45g weighted keyboard would be ideal for both work as well as gaming. It would also be nice if they got rid of the F keys (like the Happy Hacker) in some form of Topre and offered it as a separate model - because I never use them either.

Hope this helps!

so they needa stock more of those all 45g ones it seems

The exact same thing happened to me when I had a 87UB variable. Sold it and got a 55g uniform weight, problem solved. tongue.gif

I'd like to try out a Topre keyboard. I'll probably get an HHKB, because of the form factor and 45g weighted switches, when funds allow.

A HHKB is nice but more than a handful couldn't get used to the layout and ended up selling their boards. Get a RF87U if you wanna try Topre and play it safe. They also said that RF quality is better than HHKB. Personally I can't tell the difference quality wise. lol

I am worried about the 'ctrl' and 'caps lock' being switched. I tried it out on my Choc Mini and did not like it, so it probably would be better to go with the tenkeyless Realforce. Either way, it'll be a while cause I'm broke as hell right now. lol
