Noob Help

Thread Starter
Hey everyone.

I'm a new member here and looking for some help hopefully.

I have got some of my components and need some suggestions.

I am looking to make a PC more for video, audio, image, 3D and programming. Not really going to game at all.

SPECS:

i7 2600K (bought)
ASUS z68 V Pro (bought)
Antec 902 case (bought)
4 x 4GB Patriot Viper Extreme Series DDR3
LG Blu-ray writer (bought)
Corsair TX750 V2 PSU 750Watt
2 x 2TB WD Green HD
2 x 1TB WD Black HD
120GB SSD (haven't decided on brand yet)
1GB GPU (not decided on type)
Cooling (not decided on liquid or air yet)

- Is my PSU enough to supply power to everything even if OC'ed?

- What cooling is better to go for? I was intialling thinking A70, but hear it can have problems with all 4 ram slots filled with heat sinks touching fan. Or also looking at the coolermaster 212.

- I am thinking of using the SSD as cache with Intel's smart technology is that better to use? or should I just not use it as a cache and use it as a plain and simple OS drive?

- Need to figure out what GPU to get.. I am not gaming, but will be doing rendering of 3D Studio, Many Adobe programs (photoshop, after effects, premier).

Thanks for the help. smile.gif

I think that 750w PSU is more than enough with overclocking as per Phaedrus2129's PSU calc, but then again, i threw in a GTX 580 just in case.

Haven't looked at the SSD, but the cooler you recommended looks good and has amazing reviews. Better news is the RAM I chose is compatible it looks like in terms of not interfering with the heat sink. Which kills my worries.

Although that cooler is hella expensive for me. Anyone no a cheap place to get it on sale right now? I am guessing it should fit in a Antec 902 fairly well.

It depends on the resolution, you may need more vram, and I would guess you would want something along the lines of a 6850 or higher, or a 470/480-570/580

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814195097 or something like this, if you need a workstation card, since the other ones are made for gaming, these things are dedicated to rendering 3d images and animations. Things like that.

I have same psu and I can attest, it's a GREAT unit... if I could remember where the review was on toms hardware I think it said at max draw the psu will pump out about 825 before it saves itself and shuts down.

one of the best power supplies I ever invested in

That looks alright, but I am worried if CUDA cores are better needed or not? I remember seeing that Adobe software likes to utilize cuda cores a lot.

Thanks, I was hoping it would fit. Now I just need to find it on for a bit less. $80-90 is a little out of my price range. Though I haven't checked fully to see if anyone is selling it for cheaper.. will look now.
