Questions Regarding Socket 775/DDR2 Boards and SLI

Hey Guys,

I've tried searching online and can't find an answer that convinces me about hacking old (pre X58) Intel motherboards to get SLI. My current setup is:

EVGA nForce 780i
8GB PC2-8500 (1066MHz) OCZ Reaper
Intel QX9650
2x 1GB EVGA GTX 285 (SLI)
Creative X-Fi Fata1ity

Now my 780i is giving me issues and occasionally stops booting up (POST freezes at memory). I'm almost 100% sure it's not the RAM, but has something to do with the 780i having issues with 1066MHZ memory since I never experience issues in Windows, games, etc. Therefore I would like to keep my current DDR2 memory (8GB of DDR3 won't be cheap...then I'll want a newer processor too, and newer motherboards are more expensive too).

Long story short, I'm in the market for a new motherboard and absolutely want to avoid another nForce board. I'm looking at some ASUS boards (P5Q, P5E, Rampage Formula). The problem is that I have 2 GTX 285's and none of these boards support SLI. After some searching I came across people hacking these pre X58 Intel boards to support SLI. However, most of the information is at least 2 years old and the links don't work (http://www.xdevs.com, http://www.slipatch.com). I really want a lot more information before I go out and drop money on a board that isn't intended to work with my setup.

Does anyone have any information about getting SLI to work on any of these boards? Has anyone actually got SLI working on them that could give me feedback? Has anyone with similar hardware to mine got SLI working? Are there any issues? Does anyone have any recommendations for other motherboards besides the three I listed?

Thanks in advance for anyone willing to read this and help me out.

I can't speak for those board in particular, but I might be able to point you in a direction for research.

So the EP45-UD3P board is technically a crossfire board but can be "hacked" to work for SLI.
I would imagine that there would be similar tweaks out there for those boards as well. That being said though, if I were you I would try and find a used EP45-UD3P since it's an overall great board and there is more information out there on getting sli working.

Sorry for not having a definitive answer for you. If I get some more spare time later I will try and look some stuff up for ya. Best of luck.

Hey thanks...any information at this point is really helpful since I basically don't know anything on the subject. Do you have more information on the hack you're talking about? Does it have a site or forums where I could get more information? Do you know if the hack only works on the Gigabyte board or can you use it on other P45 based boards as well?

I've tried SLI via the SLI patch and a SLI bridge on my ASUS P5Q PRO Turbo with 2x GTX260's. Worked flawless.
