broken cmos battery clip

Thread Starter
So i broke my cmos battery holder clip. All that broke off was the plastic that holds the battery in place, the metal + - are still intact. I need a way to make the battery stay in place without soldering if i can. I tried tape and it gets to bios and shuts off or sometimes gets to DISK BOOT FAILURE and shuts off again( i haven't connected any hard drives yet). Gives me a disk boot failure even if i have a windows cd in there. Any suggestions?

You will need to connect a HDD for the windows setup to intiate from the cd. When you load up the CD it'll give you the option to install the OS on your HDD, if you don't have one connected then it's not really going to work.

Take the MB out and use a soldering iron to attach a paper clip "cut" to the end that broke off. Prior to bending it put the battery in to figure out if you have too much metal. Once done ensure you go into BIOS to reset everything to the way you had it. You can purchase them (soldering iron) from radio shack for cheap.

Tried with hdds connected, still gets to bios and shuts down. I guess tape is'int going to work to hold the battery in place. I really wish there was a solution other than soldering.
