the 2500k is the best bang for your buck, hands down, no contest, trollproof goodness.

It's not worth investing in older technology, sandy bridge uses about 50% less power than first gen i7s, it's worth considering.

Also, bulldozer just tanked and unless AMD lowers it's prices, there is no point at all in buying them unless you're an unrelenting fanboy extraordinaire.

I saw that but I already found one, I just need to pay for it.

Gulftown may have been out for a while but its still a six core part and its also 32nm tech. So until Intel has a six core part on 22nm then Gulftown is bleeding edge.

Yeah but an overclocked 2500k gets the upper hand!

Only in games where the eight extra threads don't matter. And with what I will be gaming with and the resolution it will be at, I won't be hurting for CPU cycles.

Well, there's some good used i7 970's on sale in the forums, I'd probably go for that, if you were planning on building something within the next month. I, along with many others, waited and waited for Bulldozer, and now waiting longer for them to optimize it would just be silly, imo.

I just want to add one thing about the older gen i7's. In certain games, such as dirt, dirt 2, grid (codemaster games), theres this really strange speed up slow down issue. The games dont run smoothly or consistently. This whole speeding up and slowing down issue makes these games unplayable. Disabling HT helps somewhat, but, if youre like me who needs totally smooth and consistent gameplay, this issue will drive you crazy. FWIW, Codemaster games are the only ones Ive experienced this with. Ive never had this issue with my AMD setups.

Trolls? So telling you what the absolute best value right now is constitutes trolling? Sheesh...

Now obviously buy what you want but you walked right into it with your "what i'll be doing would be fine with an Athlon II". If an Athlon II would be alright why are you looking for 6 cores and spending more money? That's what I have a hard time understanding here. If your primary reason for the build is Photoshop and stuff like that then fine. Otherwise there is no need to call people trolls simply for suggesting something with a lot of overclocking headroom and an overall better value.

Perhaps its the crappy childish attitude that SB owners display that turns others, like myself, off to certain things.
