Who else refuses to pay to play with dual vid cards?

I can't believe some of the crap i'm starting to hear lately around the web. Ever since the BF3 beta went live, people are going completely ape over framerates to the point where many people have stated we have crossed a line that PC gaming will now basically require running SLI or Crossfire in order to maintain "sustainable" and "enjoyable" framerates with graphical settings and as a result single card users will just be SOL. Even to the point where I'm hearing rumors that nvidia is forcing developers to make their games run best on SLI based PC rigs and that their drivers won't be fully utilized on a single video card based setups?

Umm...im sorry, perhaps my priorites in life are screwed up, but even being the gamer that I have been since I was 7, and a PC gamer since I was 12, I personally don't have the desire, or means to justify spending my hard worked for cash on TWO freaking video cards in the price range of $500-700 JUST so I can play modern PC games with playable framerates and decent quality settings.

Wow.... if this truly is is an indication of where PC gaming is headed, is it any wonder why consoles are utterly taking over the gaming world? Many people cannot justify, let alone afford especially in these tough economic times to fork over the cash to pump pretty looking pixels across a decent sized PC monitor at "playable" framerates of 50-70fps

So sorry, but if PC gaming has crossed this kinda threshold, you can be rest assured i'll be parting out my rig, buying a decent *NON gaming* capable laptop for my PC needs and spend the rest of my years on Xbox 360 and its successors in the years to come on a nice, big 55+ inch LCD TV with surround sound and only "NEED" to fork over 300-$500 ever couple of years for a new version of a console gaming system to get my gaming fix.

Screw that crap

Did I miss something? I can play BF3 just fine at ~60 frames on high settings with my sig rig (average at best). A console plays these games at 30 frames with less than 1080p resolution. Of course you are going to "pay to play" for a better experience. If it isn't worth it to you, then that's fine, it's not for everyone, and not a cheap thing to get into. That being said, there are many other hobbies that people get into that are much more expensive, archery comes to mind.

Anyway, point being, just because most of the PC gaming community wants to play at the highest settings and is willing to fork out the money for it, doesn't mean that you cant enjoy your game at 40+ frames and a slightly lower setting. Heck, there are people on here running around with 9800's and having a grand ol' time gaming.
So...what you're saying is, you want them to dumb down the graphics so modern systems can keep up with it for cheap? I'm sure PC gamers will riot if that were to happen.

Bad graphics = complaining
Console port = complaining
GREAT graphics = complaining
etcetc

Don't listen to idiots, problem solved. Don't know what all the fuss is about my system will play BF3 maxed no problem. You guys get benching and playing games confused. And yes that's at 1080p,so display it on whatever you like.

You're typing this in a forum dedicated to PC's and overclocking?
If folks want to spend their hard earned cash to run dual GPU setups why does that make you cry? If you don't think its necessary don't do it..simple as that.

Others love to play everything at max/ultra and enjoy their games visually while they play them. The whole BF3 thing is another story, we'll see how things are when its finally released.

BTW, this should be in the rant section.

I don't see why you don't get two mainstream cards for $300. Anyways, I'd just like to add that it depends on what playable and what quality is. A lot of people I know are fine with 40 fps + medium quality running either 900p or 1050p. Even at 1080p most games for the foreseeable future should do "fine" on medium even on HD. And there are maybe 1 or 2 battlefields or Crysis like games a year, most others run great. So what if they're programming for dual cards, get a good mainstream dual gpu solution for $300-400 and it should hold you for years. Hell this is great for elite gamers, or even slightly better than usual gamers like me who always go crossfire (though I could've stuck with my 460 sli that I got for under $400 maxing most everything with 50fps at 1080). I don't think you have anything to worry about, it's all rumors and speculation, I've seen or heard no news in Anands or Toms or otherwise to indicate such shady dealings, though I'm not dismissing the possibility it could be happening.

OP, don't start supporting consoles, single cards do fine, budget dual cards do great, youll do fine, no need for you to spend $500+ to play at medium or high at 40fps+ at 1080p. You could do that with a lot less an you probably always will be able to.

I don't care about BF3 TBH I'm only getting SLI 570's for folding. Of course they will allow me to play any game with awesome frames but I don't play too much anymore.

.

Its one thing if people have the "FREE" choice to do so. Its another thing entirely if the industry starts forcing our hands and no longer gives us the choice with what kinda hardware it requires to play modern PC games on, aka "Requires SLI/Crossfire setup, Single vid card users go DIAF" on PC requirement labels. Requiring decent hardware to run a modern PC game is one thing, requiring dual high priced gaming video card setups is just royal insanity and pushing it too hard
