Even at 4Ghz, I get a slight CPU bottleneck on some games with my quad core PhenomII.
Playing at high res in SLI would be better with a SB chip. You will need the SLI hack on the CHIII, and I recommend the 266.58 WHQL drivers. They work best on my CHIII with SLI GTX460s.

If you spot a bargain P67 or Z68 board and Sandy K series during black friday, jump on it hard.

I get that with a massive overclock (900 core) at 1080p but with AO/AA/AF maxed, you'll probably want 3gb GTX 580s in SLI for that...

I'd say 6970/50's, but it's unknown what kind of tessellation will be in release, tess will kill ati cards if there is a decent amount of it.

I'm about to buy a barely used 470 GTX for $165 shipped. That's like a $300 GPU setup for me, and there's no way I'm considering any other GPU setup. I just can't afford to sell my current GPU for around $150-170 and buy a GTX 580 for over $500 (Especially, knowing there are 3.0 GPUs coming out in the future).

Plans = Upgrade to i5 - find a good mobo to support my SLI 470s & pray to hit anything over 4.5GHz on my CPU with a H100!

As far as right now.. should I spend

$190 i5 2500k
$200 p8z68-v pro
$100 H100
$165 HX850

Or wait until Black Friday/Cyber Monday? I'm seriously in no rush, but what if I wait and nothing's on sale? Bah, I don't know.

Get the 2500k and a mobo with sli support.

I belive a gtx470 sli can handle 75 fps on that res, specially with a 2500k OC'ed.

With SLI or XFire, the VRAM that you have stays the same, each card will use it's 1.25gb. It will not add 1.25+1.25 = 2.5gb -> no no.

What's a card that has more than 2GB of VRAM and is under $650?

If you buy the p8z68-v (i.e. non-pro version) you could save a bit depending on prices in your area. I think the only difference is a firewire header (not even a port). Powerphases/pci-e slots, heatsinks, everything else is the same. Go with that GTX470 setup, the bang/buck is unmatchable at that price. If you want more v-ram with the same performance you're going to be looking at 500 dollars minimum.

Good to know, and I'm waiting until Black Friday - I might even get a i7 2600k O_O and rasa kit instead of h100

For bf3 w sli 470s I don't even get over 70fps @ 1080 let alone with your cpu.. the cards will choke you imo.. 1.2g vram is NOT enough.. I already use 1.18 vram or so at 1080 max details w motion blur off.

But of course.. drivers and game is beta.. so it can change dramatically but for now.. it will choke u.

Just played around yesterday with an 2500k @ 4gz with sli msi unlocked 465 golden editions. Was playing bad company 2 high settings with 8x AA 90-110 fps in multiplayer. Was using a asrock extreme 3. Built this rig for a friend yesterday.

Nice setup for sure.
