£2000 Gaming build

Thread Starter

A guy I work with needs a new pc for the upcoming release of Battlefield 3 and he mentioned to me that he was going to purchase this

I told him that it was overpriced and that building your own system will get you more for your money, unfortunately he has no interest in doing so himself and has asked me to price him a system and put it together for him and I want to get some input to make sure he gets a top gaming system.

He is adamant that he wants only the 'best parts' and trying to tell that one of the 'best' processors cost over £800 was a struggle and that he'll have to compromise somewhere to meet his budget.

Here is the system so far.

Just a couple of things.
I tried explaining to him that an i5 2500k is equal to an i7 2600k in gaming and there would be no benefit in spending the extra cash but all he sees is the i5 and i7, i7 being better in his eyes. The same problem with the OS and ram.

He is not going to overclock at all, so I thought I could save abit on a lesser motherboard but again he wants the best. Overkill doesn't seem to register with him.

I am a little unsure on the graphics cards, whether to go for a single 580 or maybe sli two 570's.
Thanks for reading

Seems like one of my friends.

I would just go ahead and get a 6990 - Can be had for around £450/500 if you know where to look.

get him an i7 2600k (£240)

Gene motherboard (£300)

Ram etc etc

Will come well under budget.

The Acer Predator is massively over priced, it does look nice though.

On your build I would get two 128GB SSDs and RAID0 them other than that by the way get the GTX570s and SLI them

Why no CPU cooler, for someone who wants the best, does he not want the quietest possible?
I'd change the mobo to this -
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-...-%28x16%29-atx
Tell him its the best of that series (which it is). Why go for the Z68 at that price when the board above is just fine for the setup you have planned?

e- with £100 saved from mobo, get a 6990, that is the best

I'm going to try one more time to convince him on the i5 2500k and just 8 GB of ram. Gonna change to the 6990.

Massively over priced indeed and in my opinion, ghastly looking. I won't be raid 0 the hard drives, keeping it simple for him.

I forgot to ask about the noise aspect, I automatically dismissed it when I knew he had no intention of over clocking. I may throw a modest after market cooler in, I'll have to ask if the noise is an issue. I'm gonna go for the 6990 instead of the 580 and change the board to the deluxe.

Thanks for input guys, appreciate it. +Rep

tell him to get a overclocked bundle from scan, the 4.7ghz i7 2600k one, aldo a asus 6990 and 1 or 2 ssds, maybe watercooling? like the new corsairs

seems like to me you have just put the most expensive overpriced parts for him which are just money wasters..

Lol at that Acer Predator, I can do a better build for £1000..
First of all W7 ultimate is useless, just extra useless language packs, get W7 Pro. I suggest to get a

, rest looks ok.

^This

I used the OCN PSU calculator and it recommended 700W for that buld so if I was you I would get a 750-800W PSU just to be safe.
