What if I put this in my loop?

If I were to get one of these chillers, would that be sufficient to chill a CPU only loop? I ask because I am looking at relatively easy ways to get some sub-ambient temps on my CPU as summer approaches and I stumbled across a FS thread for a water chiller and it got me thinking. Would this unit be enough or would more be required?

Yes it would be enough you would have to prep the mb so you won't get condensation on it.

Where would it be best to get materials for insulation for an AM3+ board? Am I correct to assume I wouldn't have to insulate too far from the socket as the temperatures wouldn't be too low from the chiller?

I persoanlly have not done this myself. I had seen you can use putty from a Michaels, hobby lobby etc. Not sure of the name of it. From what I have seen you go out from the socket to where the caps are

You would probably want to conformal coat your motherboard and other components that come in direct contact with the chilled water.

This is the stuff you want: Silicone Conformal Spray

A cheaper alternative would be to use Liquid Electrical Tape to coat the board and other components.

It would be awesome to run one of these in your loop with a koolance plate heat exchanger smile.gif

To cut down on condensation you could insulate the water loop tubing with armaflex:

http://www.synergyboreholes.co.uk/cms_images_page_text_related/58_3_large.jpg

You can get this stuff from any HVAC supplier in your area. It's the stuff they use to insulate your air conditioner copper tubing. It comes in different wall thicknesses and I.D. diameters @ 6ft lengths. The pre-split Home Depot stuff isn't as flexible as this stuff is plus it comes in more sizes. Downer is to do it right you would have to disconnect your tubing and slide it on, then reconnect everything. You could split it yourself and use Armaflex glue to close the seam. This stuff is like gorilla snot and can be messy. Black duct tape could also be used as well but would make it look uglier IMO. It doesn't look as nice as the raw tubing but it would help keep water from dripping in your case all of the time. I know on Intel sockets you have to vaseline them. Not sure on AMD though.
