Okay here is the skinny. I bought a Toshiba A-660 laptop in July/2010 for school it cost me $850.00 tx in. So in the 15 months that i have had this machine i have gone through 5 hard drives. 3 mobo's due to graphic cards letting go. I am fortunate enough to have 3 years parts and labor warranty. But at the same time so fed up. I eventually bought a W/D hdd for it and was working fine till last week when the vid card let go again only this time it took my hdd with it. So it sits in the shop again and they don't know what to do with it. Needs mobo/vid card and another hdd. The so called "Technician" working on it says never seen one like this. I have contacted Toshiba directly and asked for a replacement...there answer was that's not our policy, and went on to state that only 5% come back....ummm that seems like a lot of returns to me. I mean if you produce a million a year and 5% come back thats like 50,000 units...
So i think they should put it against the wall and...
so anyone needing a laptop dont buy a Toshiba

your "3 years parts and labor" warranty should be through Toshiba, not some technician at a computer store.
go to the store you bought it from and if your laptop's still under warranty, get them to rma it, or speak to Toshiba and request a rma.

either way; toshiba have dropped the ball in terms of laptops for a while now and b, why would you wait 15 months and go through three motherboard replacements, five hdds, etc.?

If your having this ongoing problem over and over then it's just defective. Hound Toshiba until they replace the laptop. It sound's like it sit's in the repair shop more than under your fingers.

You should have contacted Toshiba the first time the laptop failed.

What technicians usually do is replace the board with another used working board or they de-solder the GPU or CPU from a functional used board and re-solder it to your laptops motherboard. And god knows how much time these components (CPU, GPU) have been running in the past so they were close to fail too.

If the technician and the shop aren't official Toshiba retailers they cant get any new components from the manufacturer, so they all resort to the method i mentioned above.

Who replaced the HDD ? was it the same technician who replaced your motherboard ? If so maybe the technician could be using used HDDs to replace your defected ones. Thats why they have been failing alot.
Also from where did you buy the Laptop ?

Bought it at the college i go to through the computer store they have. They use the school help desk to do repairs which are factory cert techs they claim. All i know is i have warranty till i'm done this course. But so frustrating when it keeps frying parts. Its the model i figure i have talked to a few others including the prof's who have them...most of them its just hdd's the die.

Tell that to my machine. You just so happened to get a lemon. Doesn't mean all of them are bad. My Qosmio is rockin' hard nearly a year after the purchase and just because your less than impressive computer didn't hold up to what you needed it for doesn't mean that all Toshiba branded machines are bad.

Not to mention you voided the warranty taking it to someone else.
