CPU or GPU Upgrade? - Page 3

Hello MrHyde,

In Rift, I suspect that a move to a quad core phenom II at stock speeds will result in better all around performance than a dual core regor OCed. I am basing this on a web search that turned up many users claiming decent utilization on 4 and more core CPUs while playing Rift. The problem is, I can't tell you how much better the performance would be as I'm not seeing any CPU benchmarks for the game online. More than likely, it will not improve your peak FPS much if any at all, however, should help bring your minimum and average FPS up.

On this note... have you read this: http://pcformat.techradar.com/blog-e...icore-14-03-11 ?

With that in mind, how is your CPU utilization in Rift currently? Both Cores?

I think an SSD would be a good thing for an MMO enthusiast as it should help reduce the "chunky" sort of lag that tends to happen in MMOs as the world around you is loading.

I did indeed see that article (actually saw a reprint on the rift.com forums), and my cores are both being utilitzed (pretty much maxed out at all times). I think the plan is wait till Black Friday and see if I can pick up a solid mobo and phenom...ssd for christmas =)

Thanks again for all your help, I appreciate it!

I Think your processor is good but your gpu should be up graded - try a 6850 and if you have extra cash get a 955.
