I appreciate that I cannot substantiate any of that, but I'm sure if you search hard enough you will be able to find the article. I have no reason to lie, you have my word.
I remember the article. Basically Gabe said employees at Valve don't really have deadlines and employees are expected to determine what projects they can create worth for the company. There is not a hierarchical system of management at Valve either so there are no titles.

I think this might be the article: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/featur...ewell_and_.php

So where would a new CS fit in? The hardcore group already has CS and has spent their time mastering it. While everyone else would not be appealed by its archaic gameplay.
Shooting other people with guns is the core game play for a FPS. Kill streaks, perks and bonus stats/equipment for playing 2,000 hours is extra. Is it a shooter or MMO?

I hope with this news and lack of effort they stop charging us $59.99.

$19.99 sounds fair.

I dunno, I thought they looked great. good texture res, good lighting, good geometry, good facial animations, and tons of animations.

what games would you consider good then? Keep in mind this is a game from 2009, what games from 2009 look better? The only one i can think of is Batman Arkham Asylum and maybe Mirror's Edge.

The lighting on the last level of "The Parish" where you're crossing the bridge to the chopper is amazing. The only thing i've seen look more real is GTA4's lighting.

valve has never priced a pc game at 60 bucks. portal 2 & l4d2 were 45 if you pre-ordered.

console games are a different story because MS & Sony have to take their cut, you want console games to be cheaper get MS & Sony to stop charging licensing fees.

$45 on PC is still too much. $60 on console is way too much.
Currently playing Portal 2 and I'm glad I got it for $13 during the sale.
Effort clearly wasn't a priority. Still got a 95 metascore because it's Valve.

This is what people want though, they want the unlockables and carrot on the stick, if thats what sells why would games stop doing this?

Other game companies can do whatever they want to their game. I am just saying CS gamers are similar to Starcraft types. Starcraft would be strange with perks, kill streaks, and veteran rank advantages.

It seems everyone in this thread just wants Valve to pull a Mozilla/Google and release a "new version" after every update they make to Source.

Oh wait they do, it's just doesn't shine the version number in your face.

You do realise DICE do the same thing? The only difference is they run around bragging they are now using "Frostbite 2.0" when it is probably just an update.

i imagine a DX11 engine from them would be phenominal, i mean jeeze, source still looks great, take the cinematic mod for HL2, that looks awesome.

so, if an engine that old can still compete with current games graphically, i cant imagine what they could do with DX11.
DirectX is nothing but a version of an API.

Oh wait it does mean something else, it means people would have to have Windows Vista or a newer operating system to play it.

And by a newer operating system I mean a newer Microsoft operating system, notice how DirectX isn't cross platform like the arguably superior OpenGL?

Co-op with physics puzzles? I had never seen anything like that.

Effort ? Go to the Portal 2's Steam forum and do a search for Greek Mythology in Portal 2. You'll be amazed at the depth they put in the game.

I'll wait for BF3, but I doubt it can replace Portal 2 as game of the year. It is simply a superb game. It may not have the best graphics with high resolution textures - though they do look very good from a distance, but everything else is right.
