You're asking the wrong person. I have no problem with CoD using the same engine, in fact I have never even passed comment on it.

In my opinion CoD 4 onwards look good enough, graphically.

I don't appreciate CoD because they're simply rehash after rehash. They've lost all innovation and simply release the exact same game with a different graphical skin. I don't hate CoD because of the engine, I hate CoD because just like FIFA, NHL, NFL they offer nothing but the same experience year after year.

No company makes engines from scratch anyway.
All the Unreal, idTech, Frostbite etc engines are still upgraded versions of the original one.
This is not a bad thing imo, as you get perfected engines instead of buggy ones that need years of testing.

I feel many would argue with your that those are actually great games. Valve's happy, valve's customers are happy, and that's all that matters to a business.

Yeah, as much as I like football as a sport, the Madden games just get old as it is pretty much the same every year... so I stopped buying it and go out and throw the ball around instead.

well are they really updating it at all?
they're not even using DX10. stil on 9.0c
and their textures are some of the worst i've ever seen in 2011 AAA titles.
You didn't know? If you can't run it then its clearly either a crappy console port or unoptimized.

I understand where your coming from but that's not the case with alot of people.

Most of the people that complain about the COD series re using the same engine over and over again arent only angry because they're re using the same engine over and over again.......its because they're releasing basically the same game over and over again, giving it an extra number and chucking a $60 price tag on it.

It would be like if Valve released a new Counter Strike every year and just added a new name to it with a few added extra features using the same engine. Of course people are going to get pissed.

Deus Ex 3
Dead Space 2

GTA IV
STALKER series
The Witcher series

All of which have a solid storyline and very good game play, all of which require a half decent GPU @ 1920 x 1080.

I DO NOT play a game for its graphical prowess, I play a game because of its story line, if it so happens to have 'super duper' awesome graphics then that's just a bonus. My GPU is simply there to make sure that I can play any game I desire at the resolution I have available.

I have no idea how you even came to such a conclusion. Simply because I own a graphics card does not mean I care about graphics at all, it means I care about the fluidity of my game play.
I have played all those games on my 260 just fine, you do not need a gtx480, I find it ridiculous your judging me for making assumptions about you based on your graphics card when you fully made assumptions about that other guy for having a crysis avatar.

Source engine is fine. It only needs support for bigger maps.

The reason why I consider the Crysis engine to be un optimized is because as you turn up the graphics the engine is adding in very small graphical improvements while the calculations and rendering needed to produce those graphics and effects is through the roof for very little gain.

Also, there's a reason why there are modded ini files being thrown around the web that make Crysis run better while making the graphics look better. They get rid of a lot of a lot of the near useless hardware intensive calculations that make the game run like crap while adding very little visual fidelity.

Crytek basically tried to make Crysis a movie ran in real time without considering graphical optimization.
