2.1 Polk Audio from 7.2

post #1 of 13
Thread Starter
So I am moving and my rig is being "adjusted". I will be moving into a 2 Bedroom house and am turning 1 of the rooms into my Computer room. I will no longer be able to use my RM80 7.2 Polk Audio setup as it will go to my living room. So I want to switch to 2.1 Polk Bookshelf speakers. I want to get either RM80s or RTIA3's. Only thing it has to be Polk because they simply sound the absolute best.

Simple HDMI out to a receiver will no longer suffice. So I will bust my HT Omega Claro Halo out the closet. Only thing is how I will hook up the 2.1 to my sound card.

So I know my Powered Subwoofer(PSW111) has some non-powered speaker hookups and RCA out. Now can I hook the speakers upto the subwoofer and then RCA out to my soundcard, or is an amp required?

For passive speakers you need an amp.
I'm sorta mixed up from your text so correct me if I understood wrong :S
E: Amp->subwoofer powered input in->subwoofer powered output -> your polk's

Powered Sub has + - speaker terminals on the back. Theoretically I can hook up my speakers to the powered sub, and plug the sub into my A/C outlet. Then hook the powered sub upto my sound card via the RCA outputs on the sub and the RCA inputs on the sound card.

Does that sound right? I could try it with what I have now, but that's a lot to disassemble.

@Crag: Polk is the best maybe Infinity sounds better, but I haven't heard those yet. I love how clear Polk is.

Your theory of how to hook it up sounds fine...so long as your soundcard has analog RCA outputs. Otherwise just use a 3.5mm->RCA cable.

HT Omega Claro has
*High Quality RCA connectors for front output (2ch)

You mean that?

I normally go through Crutchfield for Audio.
