Combining SATA 2 & SATA 3 on RAID O

Thread Starter
I'm getting hooked with this M4 craze & been thinking of upgrading again from (2) 128 Gb M4s to another (2) 128 Gb M4s for a total of (4) 128 Gb M4s. I only have (2) SATA 3 ports that supports RAID the other (4) SATA ports that supports RAID are SATA 2 ports. Will there be a performance degradation if I combined (2) SSDs on SATA 3 ports & another (2) SSDs on SATA 2 ports all running on RAID 0?

Any benefits in mixing SATA 2 & SATA 3 on RAID 0?

you will be moving at the speed of the slowest device, so it would depend upon how much slower the older drive is. Basically all drives will operate at the speed of the slowest one, but multiplication still works in your favor! But there have been tons of guys doing hybrid arrays such as this, and they are fast as heck smile.gif

OK, thanks for the info. I guess I better use just (2) then for now instead of (4) SSDs.
