Which One? 2500k Overclocked, or I5 750 Normal?

Thread Starter
Hi OCN!. First of all thanks for looking at this post, anyway basically My dad is building a PC. Using my old parts and some new ones. We have him a GPU, PSU, HDD And that. But we still need the RAM And CPU. We already have a MOBO (H55M-GE ASrock)

We were going to get a Intel I5 7600 1156 Socket. For the CPU - £154.98 Inc VAT
And 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 XMS3, PC3-10600 (1333), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, 1.50V RAM. - £38 Inc. VAT

But then! i saw i could get a 3XS deal, and get
8GB Corsair RAM 1600MHZ
Intel Core I5 2500K Ovclocked to 4.4ghz
Asus P8P67 LE Rev 3.0, Intel P67 - Supports USB3 & SATA6
Artic Cooling Freezer 13
For £333, My pc could use an upgrade, and i can give my old man my CPU and Mobo and ram.

So is it worth getting the 3XS deal? Sorry for the mouthfull of a post.

Thanks!

2500k all the way man, the AC F13 is crap like but it will do the job.

That mobo is a bit weak too, see what V pro would be.

That is a pretty sweet deal! The i5-760 seems a little pricy. Also sandy bridge is freeking sweet for everything your dad is likely to do on it,

You can use the other components you have with the 3X deal,

What is your dad mostly gonna be using it for?

Its nothing special, but its a decent deal. If you find that you really need more CPU power, go for it. As is, you wont really notice anything from the RAM, and your GPU isnt bottle-necked by the 860 in the first place.

If you're doing video editing, rendering, or stuff like that and need the CPU power, go for it. Otherwise, wait a while longer. Ivy is coming

Price/ perfromance wise I would say i5 2500k, it's the best bang for buck cpu out right now for gaming. As Andrew mentioned you may want to look at a mobo which is slightly more powerful and can handle the chip if you decide to go for high overclocks etc. The power phase VRM is weaker I believe on the LE version, either the V or V PRO would suffice and would work very well in combination with an SB chip.

Hope that helps

It comes pre overclocked but I'd personally change the cooler.

The other h55 mobo you have isnt exactly great either. If I was looking for a new pc the i5-2500k would be the logical choice and that deal would be a catalyst.

Well the board you already have is 1156 only obviously, but if you plan on OCing with that you won't get very far at all.
Since it's the only component you have already that actually dictates which socket you'd have to go with (and it's not very good anyway), you may as well cut your loss + go for the latest & greatest - esp if the price isn't much different.

You really should get this 3XS deal. The mobo isn`t that uber but way better than having a 7600 CPU.

The I5-760 is a great chip but that board you have it going on is terrible you wont see much of an oc out of it. Id switch it up and go for the 2500k setup. Like said maybe switch up the mobo for a pro instead but other than that looks solid.
