I think I saw maybe one review were the they actually changed the north bridge frequency (and it showed performance gains for FX). 99% of the overclocks were done only with the multiplier

Go check Xtremesystems, there are several in depth overclocks already in the AMD section. NB on BD obviously needs tweaking. Gains are minimal and max stable i've seen so far was 2.8 on water. And even then, most are 2.6-2.7 or less when stability is concerned. And whether they oc'ed the multiplier has nothing to do with the NB clock confused.gif

Anand, Tom's and pretty much everyone else's "official" review featured an overclock that just upped the multiplier. they didnt touch the bclock or NB

whatever, i'm done with this back and forth. the CPU has only been out a few days, and you are making definitive statements based on a few inconclusive benchmarks. fact is you have no concrete proof at this moment to say without a doubt that a fx-6100 is inferior to a thuban.

It's not hard to do 2 + 2 bro but whatever i'm not looking for an argument. When 3.6 x8 gets beat in more benchmarks then not by 3.3 1100, you have problems when you're trying to compare an fx6xxx. Simple as that.

sPi is a perfectly good reference as well, because it's between 2 AMD processors. No intel excuses please.

Thuban > FX6100. All day. Not to mention Thubans NB on average clocks much 400-500mhz higher than FX's. Thuban is beast.
Its true, Im benching my 8150 right now at 4.8Ghz and it cant compete against my 1100t at 4255mhz

The guy already has a 990FX motherboard, he wanted advice on which CPU to buy. Not fanboys telling him to buy another brand. I swear this forum is getting worse by the day. You can't have a discussion about anything around here without people constantly cluttering up the thread with this type of garbage.

OP, it really depends on if you are doing heavily threaded apps or not. If you do a lot of encoding, rendering or something like that then I would buy an FX CPU based on your budget.

In my opinion, even if you game a lot, unless you game at low resolutions with no effects on then an FX CPU is the way to go. Somehow the FX series gains more FPS than i5s and i7s in many games at high settings.

I wouldn't buy last years CPU with today's motherboard unless you are sure that a 1090T (or whatever you want) is gonna be exactly what you need for the coming years. The FX series CPUs will gain some performance increase with Windows and application optimizations over time. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot. All new designs take time to work out the kinks and bugs.

Honestly, either series CPU will be perfectly fine unless you have some very specific needs.
