So, just bought an AX850.. - Page 2

Thanks for the replies. These replies put my mind at ease anyway. I couldn't really afford the purchase but i didn't have much of a choice as the old PSU was failing. At least i know i havn't wasted my money. Thanks all.

I gotta admit the major attraction of the AX850 was it's fully modular design. The old Thermaltake unit it was replacing was only partly modular; the 24pin mobo connector and PCI-E connector were permanently attached.

This, and the long warranty is what made me decide to buy the AX850.

It is impressive so far, extremely quiet and in fact a tiny bit smaller then the old Thermaltake PSU, so installation was a little bit easier. (not much room in this CM 690 II advanced case with two radiators, piping, etc. So this helped alot.) Fingers crossed it lasts longer then the old Thermltake PSU.

But really, why 850W there? Lol. 400W would have been enough.

400 watts is what i thought too, till i plugged the tower into a meter and found that at idle i'm around 250/330 watts. Load has exceeded 600. So with future proofing in mind, i decided to get at least a 850 watt unit. This gives me room for another card should i need it, plus room for another pump if i decide to run two seperate water loops.
