Silencing a Corsair AX1200 - Page 2

My water cooling fans and pump are external, so maybe I hear it more. Literally the only components producing any sound in my case are the fans (which aren't causing the noise because I've tried turning them off), the hard drive (which has a distinct sound), and the PSU. On startup, it's really quiet, but even at idle it's noticeable. Am I just being picky?

You could probably trade it in for a smaller psu. The ax1200 overkill lol. Might quiet it down a bit?

Need ~1000 anyway. frown.gif

i can see replacing a psu fan would make for a really hefty project

The first picture on this review makes it look pretty easy. Is it harder than it looks?

BTW, thanks for all the responses.

if you decide, the noise is worth the voided warranty, give it a shot!

An 850 would power that with no problems. The 750 in my sig would run it fine as well. I only see 2 way sli there?

This. An 850 will power 2x580 + 2600k all overclocked very heavily without problems. My 850 poweres my sig rig with loads of peripherals (see 6 USB HDDs, jump drive, 6 fans @ 1850rpm, MCP 35X, USB TEC) plus sig clocks (replace dead 2600k with 2600k at 5.1GHz 1.475V) folding on CPU and 2 cores of GPU without making a sound. It's a fantastic PSU.

Not sure who told you that you would need 1KW confused.gif

Even so the pump doesnt draw much at all. Have him hook up a kill a watt and see what hes drawing at the wall while running occt or prime or all of the above lol. I bet at the wall its less than 800 which at 90% efficiency is quite a bit less actual draw on the psu.

Thanks everyone!

I just ordered a Kill a Watt and will test. Since I am still within 30 days of getting the 1200AX, maybe I will exchange it.

I wish I had consulted here first before going with the 1200AX, haha. x.X

Last night, I tried remounting the PSU with silicone washers (that came with some fan gaskets i orderdered) and it is much quieter. biggrin.gif So I think it was vibration noise I was hearing. (The 1200AX does not fit perfectly in the Mini P180 since its a bit longer than normal.)

The electric meter is on its way, so I'll let get back to you guys about how much power my system consumes in a couple days. Thanks for all the responses.
